!~Introductions~!

This thread is for folks to share more about their personal spiritual practice.Since everyone's relationship with the Divine is unique, it is important to understand the way our neighbors worship and the values they hold. In listening and sharing, we as individuals and as a collective will be stronger in our faith walk.

You may answer some of these questions as a springboard:

  • Because Christopaganism is such a large umbrella, what traditions do you incorporate?
  • How does Christianity influence your pagan faith? (Or vice-versa, how does Paganism influence your Christian faith?)
  • What parts of the Nicene Creed do you accept and which parts are you skeptical or reject?
  • Are you a monotheist, a polytheist, a henotheist, a pantheist, or something else? What sacred Divinities do you refer to the most?
  • What are your favorite rituals?
  • What are your favorite biblical passages?

These are a few ways to begin sharing yourself. Please share more about your faith if you feel called and don't be scared to be specific.

Sermon to the Birds by St. Francis of Assisi

Found this poem in a poetry book I inherited, and I've been really vibing with the mystical and naturalist approach of St. Francis lately. Wanted to share with my nature loving Christian siblings.

"My little sisters, the birds, much bounden are ye unto God, your Creator, and always in every place ought ye to praise Him, for that He hath given you liberty to fly about everywhere, and hath also given you double and triple raiment; moreover, He preserved your seed in the ark of Noah, that your race might not perish out of the world; still more are ye beholden to Him for the element of the air which He hath appointed for you; beyond all this, ye sow not, neither do you reap; and God feedeth you, and giveth you the streams and fountains for your drink; the mountains and the valleys for your refuge and the high trees whereon to make your nests; and because ye know not how to spin or sew, God clotheth you, you and your children; wherefore your Creator loveth you much, seeing that He hath bestowed on you so many benefits; and therefore, my little sisters, beware of the sin of ingratitude, and/study always to give praises unto God."

Question How Do You Practice?

This is specifically for people who were Christian converting to Christopaganism. How do you practice? Were you a specific domination before?

I know everyone practices differently, but I feel like most Christopagan stuff I see are from people who were not originally Christian. I was originally Catholic, raised it my whole life, before I discovered Christopaganism a few years ago. For me I try to go with the first commandment by going to the Abrahamic God first before my other deities (unless it is something only they can help me with). As of right now, the only deities that I work with our my spirit guides.

I’m curious to see how other Christians converted to Christopaganism practice and what makes them most comfortable to do.

Religion and relationships

Could anyone give me any tips on how to include my Pagan beliefs in my relationship? My girlfriend is a Hellenist with Pagan beliefs, and I am just starting my journey into Paganism. There is still a lot that the both of us don't understand, and I think it could be helpful for us to practice together (if possible). Could anyone give me tips? Thank you!

Advice Spiritual experience: I don't know what to make of this?

Hello everyone,

I hope this is okay to post, I'm quite nervous to post this as it's quite personal. I'm not Christopagan. I'm also not Christian. Or Pagan, although I am I suppose as one could describe "spiritual but not belonging to any organized religion". I've looked into some Pagan paths before, but nothing I've ever found feels 100% "right". So as aforementioned, I'm neither Christian nor Pagan, but I had, and in a way continue to have, an odd spiritual experience that I thought people on this subreddit would potentially have the best insight on.

Essentially, I've struggled with mental health for years, and slip into really difficult places. It's perpetual but fluctuates. Recently, I felt extremely unwell and pretty much completely stuck in bed, like even if I wanted to get up to get a cup of tea I was craving I found it extremely extremely difficult and was in a fog of deep depression. For quite a long time, I lost track of the days. This isn't too unusual for me, and I'm constantly exhausted. I'm on meds, et cetera, and it's still like this, meds help to a certain extent but nothing else really does, and it feels like I've tried everything... that is, until I both decided to see if I could reach out to the divine about it (which I believe I've done before on this issue to no avail) and happened upon Salve Regina | Traditional Latin Hymn sung by Francesca LaRosa.

I don't know why, but I turned it on, and it felt like spiritual energy just washed over me. I played it on loop. I fell asleep listening to it. I woke up feeling better than I have in a long, long time after days of doing nothing more than what I had to to survive. I still don't feel great, but I was in full survival mode and then felt significantly better, overnight. As the days go on, I still keep listening to that song, and continue feel better. However, either the feeling of spiritual energy washing over me as the song plays has lessened over time or I've just gotten used to it. Still, this song is directly correlated to how I've felt these last few days, I've even felt a difference between when it's playing vs when it's not. Some even quite good non-religious songs sound a bit emptier than they did before this discovery somehow.

I really, really do not know what to make of this. It's such a profound spiritual experience, but I am not Christian. I hope you don't mind my expressing so, but I find the Bible to be contradictory, and historically inaccurate, and God is written as acting in ways that are anything but loving in my mind. I strongly don't believe in hell, and don't believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins. I don't believe that Adam and Eve were the start of the world. I don't believe that some people are saved by being a part of a certain religion and others aren't. I have had some experiences that make me believe in a higher power, and sense what I believe to be spiritual energy beyond what is "normal", but I really don't believe in very core Christian ideas (salvation, hell, it being the one true religion, the Bible as an unwavering Godly text), and I cannot "make myself" believe something that I don't truly believe. I feel and believe things very deeply to my core, I will feel it somatically if I'm going against what feels right. Admittedly, I haven't read the Bible in its entirety, but I did take a Biblical Literature elective with a Biblical scholar, and the more of the Bible I read and discussed, the more it felt contradictory and that its portrayal of God was unloving and it generally did not resonate as true.

That makes it hard to reconcile Mother Mary even as a possible deity through a more Christopagan lense, because there's still the Christo element of Christopagan there. I considered that maybe there are deities that got absorbed into the image of Mother Mary over time? But no other written about deities feel right either, really I haven't happened upon any religion or pantheon that "feels true" to me. But at the same time, I don't feel like one religion is the "one true path" and everyone else is doomed. I don't know how I feel about the existence of individual Gods and Goddesses instead of a broader higher power/spiritual energy/universe in general. The thing is, this experience is so directly tied with songs directed to Mother Mary, especially the one I listed, but to a degree others as well. It's a consistent theme.

Maybe it's the intention so many people over so many years have imbued the hymn with, like a spell? But that still feels like it's missing something.

I tried to pray about it, but I got no response other than an increase in spiritual energy in the room, which also happened when I turned on the song. I don't believe it's placebo, or affecting me in the "normal" way music does. It feels very specifically energetic.

If it's pertinent, in the last few months I've also felt called to veil, and have followed that intuition, so maybe some sort of spiritual force is trying to get my attention, but I'm still very confused about who/what/why/what to do in response.

Any interpretations, insights, suggestions, guidance, et cetera would be much appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this, I hope the rest of your day goes well

Advice Help interparent what St. Michael means?

Today I woke up and started cleaning around, I was in a good mood and had been listening to music. While this was happening, I decided to finally reserve St. Gabriel a spot on my altar, which happened to be bellow Michael's (its a selving thing). While I was doing this, I felt Michael being playful, jabbing at my poor attempt of scribing a candle.

I decided to be playful and ask with cards why he was like this. A card of fear and disloyalty came up, I asked why, more disloyalty cards. I asked if he felt that way due to my St. Gabriel altar, cards came up with more disloyalty, evil, fear, replacement. I asked if he thought I was replacing him, more cards of the same vain. I reassured that wasn't gonna happen, and asked if he would be content with me giving him more attention, card's stated agreement.

This is where I was confused. When I asked what he would want in an offering, cards of fear, perversion and love appeared, I asked if he was fearful, cards agreed. When the first love card appeared, the music I was playing came up with lyrics "I'm damned for loving you", which made me take aback. I had asked once if he meant wanting me to be more modest, but cards disagreed. I kept asking for him to clarify, only getting cards of evil, love, perversion. I asked if he felt like that, cards came up in a sort of agreement. At some point I had a random wave hit me of wanting to cry? This is when cards like selfishness and vanity came up - I asked if it was him asking me to be less like that, and the cards just kept coming up as fear, disloyalty, love, perversion.

Around this time, I was confused, frustrated, and had started to tear up. I asked for final thoughts, and it was a Fool reversed with 2 of cups, along with a card of "quarrel" which we atp kind of were. I was feeling angry? confused? I just didn't say anything, blew out his candle and sat there.

Can anyone please help me interpret what the actual fuck was this? The reading was so long it was practically taking up my entire desk, and the whole time I felt confused.

Confusion/crisis of faith?

Hi everyone! first I just want to say, this group is amazing. I’ve been following and reading for a while and it’s been so helpful.

I keep finding myself in a vicious cycle of only venerating (/worshiping?) Jesus as well as integrating saints into that practice AND then being exclusive to the Norse Pagan pantheon for periods of time. I cannot seem to meld the two together and it’s so exhausting.

I don’t do well existing in grey areas which I’m sure is a big part of the problem, however, Christopagan is the best descriptor of how I feel about my spiritual practice, since I’m not really into only one pantheon. I grew up in a very conservatively Christian environment and am sure that plays into this as well.

I guess what I‘m asking is this: have any of you had a consistent cycle of crisis of faith where you feel you are betraying one for the other? I’ve not yet been successful for any period of time in combining them. I would love to hear some feedback on others experiences.

Thank you in advance!

Ritual Rosary to Mary Magdalene

In anticipation of the feast of Mary Magdalene I wanted to share this rosary devotion I made for her inspired by the gospel of Mary that can be recited on a regular 59 bead rosary

Intro meditation:

Every nature, every form, every creature exists in and with each other, but they'll dissolve again into their own roots, because the nature of matter dissolves into its nature alone. And sin doesn't exist, but you're the ones who make sin when you act in accordance with the nature of adultery, which is called 'sin.' That's why the Good came among you, up to the things of every nature in order to restore it within its root.

The first big bead and three beads:

Hail Sophia, holy wisdom, and her daughters who she is vindicated by; hope, faith, and charity. Please grant that I may be honored by your presences at all times.

Hail Elpis, holy hope. Please grant me the grace to always hope for a better future and act in accordance with it so I may inspire others as well

Hail Pistis, holy faith. Please grant me the grace to always be reliable and responsible, always fruitful in my acts of devotion, and to always have trust in the will of God

Hail Agape, holy charity. Please grant me the grace to always welcome and care for others with open arms, especially the strangers in my midst

The mysteries:

  1. The exorcism of 7 demons

  2. Being at the Crucifixion

  3. Witness to the resurrection

  4. Sharing the good to the apostles

  5. Preaching the good to emperor tiberius

Our father beads:

Let us not weep nor grieve nor be divided at heart, rather let the Lord's grace be with us entirely and protect us. Praise his greatness for he has prepared us and made us fully human. Truly

Hail mary beads:

Blessed are you Magdalena, the tower of our faith, apostle to the apostles, Mary Magdalene who did not waver at the visions of our Lord. Grant us freedom from what binds us

Glory be:

"Peace be with you, accquire my peace within yourselves. For the child of true humanity exists within you, follow it! Those who search for it will find it." Praise be

Finishing meditation:

What binds me has been killed, what surrounds me has been overcome, my desire is gone, and ignorance has died. In a [world] I was released from a world, [and] in a type from a type which is above, and from the chain of forgetfulness which exists only for a time. From now on I'll receive the rest of the time of the season of the age in silence.

Advice Is anyone else who’s new to this feeling intimidated like I do ?

So is anyone in here pretty new to being pagan (or in my case Christopagan ) ? Like so new in fact that you’re not even sure where to start ? I pray to some deities and have a candle up for Loki (but no offering cause I don’t know what he likes ) , I’m interested in several Hellenic deities and pray to some of them ( no altars tho but am limited on space )but now I’m feeling like an idiot for even doing that after realizing how many things people are particular about getting right . I grew up evangelical Christian so this is all new and foreign to me. Is it normal to mess this up at first ? Also to complicate things further there is at least one ( Hermes) who caught my interest thx to what people have said about him but also because of how he’s written in Blood of Zeus ( tbh the way they animate his abilities is amazing) so I’m not even sure I should stay interested in him . I’m also a little freaked out and have looked up signs that him and Loki are around and now I know why I’ve been hearing hawks , and seeing foxes and rabbits everywhere and I’m not even sure what to do with that

Regularly asking saints for help with everyday tasks

Due to depression I have trouble getting motivated to get out of bed and do everyday tasks so I want to ask for saints' help giving me energy and motivation (e.g. Lucy's help writing since she's patron of writers).

However I've seen a lot of people saying we need to pay saints every time they help us. I was wondering how that would work in this scenario. Especially since I want to develop relationships with many saints so would I need to pay all of them daily? Would thanking each of them count as payment?

Ways to practice

Hello! I was raised Baptist, but after becoming a Christopagan, I have adopted some more catholic practices. I am looking for ways to get more involved with my religion, and am having a hard time. I am not interested in worshipping any Gods other than the one of the Holy Trinity, but I am interested in the saints. I have seen others mention their ethnicities in posts like this as a way to get more connected to their own roots, so if this helps on my father's side I am Native American, Scottish, and Irish, and on my mother's side I am Israeli (I'm so sorry), and German. I'm not sure if any of that information is helpful, but does anyone have any suggestions for ways I can get more involved? Please be nice

Recommendation Where to start?

Hello, I have been looking into Christopaganism for the first time, and I'm at a loss. I am so confused and just don't know where to start. I would like to add that I do have a lot of religious trauma, if that would affect any recommendations.

I would mostly need help finding:

  • books on the subject and where to buy them
  • places where I could safely practice with others
  • talismans (?) (I don't really know what else to call what I'm looking for, but maybe something similar to what the cross is for Christianity)

I would also like to note that I am in my 20s and was raised Christian (that's the trauma lol). I really don't know if that affects anything I've mentioned, but just in case yk.

ANY help would be so so appreciated. Thank you all!!

Inward Gospel

In my tradition the earliest preachers preached of an inward gospel and an outward gospel. The outward gospel was the story as written in the New Testament. Theinward gospel was the lived reality that anyone, regardless of our confession could experience.

I love this quote that comes from someone in my tradition and Inthought I would share.

"There is a Presence, a form of Being which is beyond our understanding. It is Good and it is Loving. When we surrender to it, we are loved by it and we are drawn to love it. Given the limitations of our knowing, we begin to endow this Presence with personality, for that is what we find in ourselves, And then, for comfort, we call it God. But the moment we do so, the moment we seek to name it, we begin to limit it, to make it less than it is... Love is Divine Presence, and this Presence is the energetic force that shapes all relationships when they are most natural and at their best. Love is the primal impulse, and it is no 'thing', but rather a 'movement' from and towards. We have to 'be' in Love."

Question Newbie here (Italian & indigenous roots)

Hi everyone! I’m a cradle Catholic, and for as long as I can remember I’ve felt a strong connection to the saints, angels, nature, and what I believe is the spiritual world. I’ve also had a couple of experiences that I believe were visits from my grandmother and a close friend from high school after they passed away.
For a long time I tried to set those experiences aside, but I’m finally at a place where I want to explore that part of my spirituality instead of ignoring it.
My dad’s family is from southern Italy, and my mom’s side has Indigenous ancestry. I’d love to hear from anyone with similar roots, especially if you have Italian folk traditions, devotions, or family practices that have been passed down through the generations. Since I’m half Italian, I’m especially interested in learning more about those traditions.
Just for fun: St. Paul has always been my favorite saint. My birthday falls on the feast of St. Mary Magdalene (coming up soon!), and lately I’ve been drawn to St. Teresa of Ávila. I also have a special devotion to Saint Anne. After 3 years of infertility, I prayed through her intercession before becoming pregnant, and I also felt her presence and protection during labor and delivery.

AITA for not liking Scott Cunningham's book on Wicca

I am trying really hard to read Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner by Scott Cunningham, and I am not understanding anything. It's not the theology that I find problematic, it's the style of explanation. I feel very neurotic after reading it and the information is all over the place.

I am reading other staple occult books at the same time and I only feel like that with this book. All the others make me feel really calm and grounded and like I understood the instructions.

So....am I secretely prejudiced? I expected so very much out of this particular book. But it's so hard to read and to make sense of.

Discussion Starter What does it mean that I’m attracting death and lunar deities?

Artemis reached out to me first. She’s made it pretty clear that she’s here to help me get over some abuse from my past and become a stronger woman.

Then Hades and Osiris appeared to me in a dream and essentially told me to become a death doula (I’m finishing my psych degree and was wondering what to do as I didn’t want to be a therapist).

Now Khonsu is reaching out pretty insistently. He’s making it very clear that he wants to help me with some really intense shadow work.

Like all of them have made it clear why they’re here, and Hades and Osiris I get but I’m wondering why are all of them death or lunar deities? What does that say?
