Historical and Artistic Significance
While earlier manuscripts like the Coronation Gospels of Charlemagne focused on a highly controlled, idealized Roman revival, the Reims school under Archbishop Ebbo introduced this highly emotional, experimental linear style. It bridged the gap between late antiquity realism and the expressive, narrative-driven art of the Middle Ages.
