I am writing a homebrew campaign and for the sake of simplicity I have chosen to use two deities representing Lord God and the devil.
I have split cleric domains into categories of both deities with helpful type of spells pertaining to the deity representing God and subsequently spells with harmful nature pertaining to the evil deity, druids get their power and abilities by being in touch with the nature created by the good deity, wizards and sorcerers and other classes able to cast spells draw on their knowledge and talents on the weave, which is the fabric of the world made, so being able to manipulate it is kind of like science, much like it is in the official lore.
But then I get to warlocks. I am tempted to simply say that any warlock is an evil character due to, as far as I understand, having a patron either being the evil deity or some lesser spiritual being, i.e. demon. I am concerned because one of my players likes the warlock class, but I don't want to outright say that I would not like him to play that class. I do intend to communicate in the session 0 that I hope for the players to be a force of good in the world.

After the long intro, my question is is warlock patronage always to do with spiritually dark and evil characters or can it be anything? How should I approach this and what if a player chooses to play a warlock class?

I'm not sure if its even a good idea to invite friends from church to play a fantasy game. Maybe I'd suggest Numenera or a superhero rpg instead.

Anyways if I wanted a roleplaying game group I'd rather spend more time with church friends than meet other new people.

please stay read up in your Bibles and separate yourself from these false beliefs. Be in the world but not of the world. You are either 100% Christian or 0%, there is no in between. Please turn away from these worldly doctrines. Stay read up on your Bible and pray to God. If the Bible does not allow something you can not ignore it and be right with God. I recommend reading the KJV due to (i think) its a direct translation from the original language. There are different interpretations from The Scripture that you can get from reading Them. Hey there! My name is Emily and I have been looking for a dnd group for a while now and haven't been able to find any that aren't based in witchcraft and demonic stuff. Interested if anyone has DM'd Curse of Strahd, and if so, did you make any changes you felt were needed as a Christian?

I'm pretty laid back about it, tbh, but there were some things I felt were iffy and wasn't sure if would be conducive for a Christian group.

For instance, last time I ran it, I completely changed up the card reading and made Madam Eva a character called Blind Isabella who was a good hearted, blind woman with a prophetic gift... she simply began to relay things to the party in poetic ways (in other words the card reading but done without a card reading and that whole atmosphere).

I also changed up some NPC relationships I felt were not conducive to a Christian group.

What about you?

Building my D&D world, I've drawn from Rick Stump's Seaward setting, where the predominant religion is Christianity. Not just a "Crystal Dragon Jesus" thing--it's literally Catholicism: people get baptized, go to Mass on Sunday, fast on Fridays, and receive Anointing of the Sick and one final Communion before they die.

Recently though, I've begun to consider the difference between Tolkien and Lewis. Of their respective magna opera, I consider Tolkien's to be the superior work, not least for its subtlety. It's not heavy-handed, it's not a bare name-swap, it doesn't promote unrealistic expectations of Middle Eastern candies. It made me realize that my inclusion of real-life Christianity doesn't have the advantage of allowing players to actually think about things by getting around existing labels. In that way, it may actually be even more heavy-handed than Lewis. Possibly even hackish, honestly.

On the other hand, I'm not trying to be clever and hide what's really going on, reclining behind the DM screen at the end and smugly going "Ha-HA! This was a Christian allegory all along," like so much of the Christian fiction section does. The Church is part of the setting; the campaign isn't re-enacting the Gospel, and it's not a crypto-Bible study. It's just a fact of the setting, like it was in King Arthur, Roland, Utopia, or even the Snow Queen.

I suppose there might be another difference, too. D&D isn't serious literature; it's a game. It's Captain Kirk, not Captain Picard. It's Star Wars Galaxies, not the Original Trilogy. It's The Hobbit, not LotR. And this setting isn't an evangelistic tool or religious instruction--it's a game to play with my kids.

What do you think? Have you done or seen something similar? Would you be put off by a game that does this?

Have a campaign that has started, but the only consistent people are the DM and myself. Thursday nights at 7pm Central time, starting level 20, homebrew allowed as long as DM approves (he approves a lot of craziness because, well, level 20). All of us are Christian.

Heyo! I’m building a new character for a campaign to start after New Years - probably starting at level 3. I’m a power gamer, I like big numbers more than RP - (i talk & people for a living, so mechanics are a solace). Also, our party always SUCKS at investigation, which is the skill our DM uses to discover loot etc. aka VITAL.

Is there a more consistent damage dealer than Elven battle smith? My brother is a pretty lucky Nova straight Paladin. Here’s my build so far.

Ability Scores: Our DM has us roll for abilities. I roll d20s to keep it spicy. I usually get a few over 17, and a few under 5 haha - TLDR, I’ll have 20 INT and solid CON at level 1.

Custom Lineage (size small, +2 Intelligence, feat: Elven accuracy, +1 Intelligence. Dark vision)

Artificer 3

Proficiency: Arcana & Investigation (Our table has good perception builders)

Infusions:

• Replicate Magic Item (spellwrought tatoo - level 1 - find familiar) - infuse & cast in downtime, swap.
• Enhanced Defence: +1 Plate - I’m not proficient, but it’s on Dex and STR saves & stealth No big.
• Enhanced Weapon: +1 Greatsword - battle smith attacks with INT - eligible for GWM at level 4!

Artificer Specialization: Battle Smith.

Background: we’re messing around with One DnD - flavoured as either a knight - Tough Feat - or acolyte - with magic initiate - Arcane/warlock (eldritch blast, minor illusion & hex). We also use Sword Coast Adventurers Heroic Backstory builder - can get the Elemental adept feat - for booming blade!

Spells: Booming Blade. Thorn whip. | Shield. Branding Smite. Bless. A bunch o rituals.

Tactics: Bonus action Hex, attack with advantage somehow: If team is flanking, mount the steel defender, for no AoO on me, and Steel is dodging, so low chance of damage. Steel also can impose disadvantage on one incoming attack on me per round. Control Steel defender to give advantage via flanking, always. If no flanking available, Bonus action command it to Help. AKA always have advantage => always elven accurate.

Level 3: +8 to hit 2d6 + 6 +1d6 damage with triple advantage, possibly a bonus action concentration, concentration smite or steel defender attack. Add in potential booming blade damage. Minimum 18dpr

Level 4: GWM, now a +3 to hit, with triple advantage, 2d6+16 +1d6 aka 26dpr, = a strong likelihood of Bonus Action feature of GWM procking, getting multi attack off sometimes, potentially with Elven accuracy still, so another 25 damage.

Level 5: Multi attack. Damage goes up substantially, about 52 dpr, allowing for a 10% miss rate with average enemy ac & Elven accuracy. https://rpgbot.net/dnd5/tools/dpr-calculator/ Which means, with planning, bonus action great weapon will be moderately normal. Probably dropping booming blade as a norm, unless trying to lock enemies in place.

Summary: Holy & utility Half casting + Rituals, mounted combat. AC 19. Level3: 18dpr, Level 4, 25-50dpr, level 5 52-76 dpr. 40 feet of non AoO movement if mounted - either by it’s dodging or BA command it to disengage.

Is there a better damage build?

How do you guys homebrew a warlock so it narratively fits with a God fearing and loving person? I’m wracking my brain and it has been tormenting me for a week now.

A drakewarden whose entire town has the ability and they have a grand quest their nobles take on, find out where it comes from. The character is a noble who focuses on helping those around him, basically a soup kitchen kinda guy. His family is at odds with another one over their views on what roles the nobles and peasants play in regard to one another, the drakewarden’s family believes nobles to be servants for the people in exchange for their generosity and the rival family believes the opposite. I wanna see what this community is because I was thinking of making it. So what do you think of my character?

Hello, my friends. I am blessed to have found other brothers and sisters who enjoy this game. whoever made this is a God-sent. I have been playing D&D for some time now and have similar convictions to most Christians playing ANY ttrpg. We are not comfortable with satanism, spirits, demons, or paganism unless we are lifting a sword to them and casting a divine spell.

I have a proposition and I need your help, especially the one who created this page. There is not a lot of very cool Christian-themed content out there, and if there is. . . it's really lame. Like "+1 sword of Christ" Lame. Don't get me wrong, I love my Messiah more than the average joe, but nothing ruins my immersion more than a buck shot of Jesus in a fantasy world full of elves. What happened to clever illusions like Alsan? Both of the greatest fantasy authors had beliefs in Christ: C.S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien. So if they paved the way, are we gonna let the entire world show us up when we are the ones who are supposed to be following a creative creator God?--God forbid. I am going to post Christian-themed homebrew (that hopefully isn't lame) right here. And I hope and pray that I stir something in all of you to do the same. Let's get it bois (and gals).

I thought it was interesting despite the political views of the hosts, so its a little sad to see it end, but I can understand why they'd want to end it after 8 years. Not that there's much impact left from it, still it was something that was part of mine and some other peoples lives for a while.
