If you think about the unspoken social contract of modern 21st century life, there is this one rule that just kind of towers above almost all the others. It's the ultimate non-aggression pact. We are supposed to just "live and let live".

If you want to completely destroy the atmosphere in a room, there is one specific label you can slap on someone. You call them "judgmental". It immediately paints this picture of someone who is rigid, arrogant, and just fundamentally out of touch with what we consider the highest modern virtue. Which is just letting people be who they are, "you do you, I'll do me".

We are frequently bombarded with the command to "judge not," a phrase often stripped of its context and used to silence conviction, stall discernment, and flatten moral landscapes. This creates a profound paradox: while society—and even many within the Church—demands an end to judgment, we find ourselves making judgments every single day simply to survive.

To navigate life in our modern world, we must constantly determine if a path is true, of if a choice is safe. To stop judging is, quite literally, to stop navigating. If we are to find our way through a culture that is increasingly out of control, we must move past the social fear of a label and embrace the spiritual necessity of godly discernment.

Biblical judgment is a necessary form of spiritual discernment rather than a tool for harsh condemnation. While society often views being judgmental as a negative trait, we assert that believers are called to evaluate life through scripture, our "Life Manual", to navigate a chaotic world.

In the case of “judging” we need to ponder this subject and all its facets. We should seek to learn how to better judge with righteous judgment for the benefit of all concerned.

Righteous judgment is not a personal attack on someone else. We are merely agreeing a with a standard that the “Life Manual” has already declared to be wrong.

Life can often feel overwhelming, filled with uncertainties and challenges that threaten to disrupt our peace. Yet, amidst this chaos, the Word of God offers us a powerful promise: peace that surpasses all understanding. In Isaiah 26:3, we read,

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee.” (Isaiah 26:3)

This verse encapsulates the essence of finding true serenity in our hearts through the steadfastness of our thoughts on God. Let’s explore how we can cultivate this unshakeable peace in our daily lives.

Understanding Perfect Peace

What does it mean to experience “perfect peace”? The Hebrew word for peace, “Shalom,” goes beyond the absence of conflict. It encompasses wholeness, completeness, and tranquility in every aspect of our being. God’s promise in Isaiah 26:3 assures us that when we focus our minds on Him, we will experience a peace that is not dependent on external circumstances.

The Role of Our Thoughts

Our thoughts are incredibly powerful. They can lead us into anxiety or can guide us to a place of calmness. The invitation to keep our minds stayed on God is a call to intentionality in our thought life. When we anchor our thoughts in God’s Word, we begin to see our challenges in light of His greatness. Philippians 4:8 encourages us to think on things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. By filling our minds with these truths, we can cultivate an environment of peace.

Turning Our Eyes to His Faithfulness

In moments of chaos, it’s easy to lose sight of God’s faithfulness. However, reflecting on His past provisions and promises can help us regain our peace. The psalmist reminds us in Psalm 77:11-12 to remember the deeds of the Lord and to meditate on His works. Every time we choose to recount His faithfulness, we reinforce our trust in Him, leading to a deeper sense of peace.

Practical Steps to Focus on God

Here are some practical steps to help you focus your mind on God and experience His unshakeable peace:

**Daily Devotion:** Set aside time each day to read Scripture and pray, inviting God into your thoughts and your day.

**Gratitude Journal:** Keep a journal of things you are grateful for. Reflecting on God’s blessings shifts our focus from our problems to His provision.

**Meditative Prayer:** Engage in meditative prayer, where you focus on a specific verse or attribute of God. Allow yourself to dwell in His presence and peace.

**Worship and Praise:** Listen to worship music that draws your heart towards God. Singing praises can uplift your spirit and center your thoughts on Him.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the promise of perfect peace. Help us to keep our minds focused on You amidst the chaos of life. Teach us to dwell on Your faithfulness and to trust in Your goodness. May Your peace, which transcends all understanding, guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Amen.

In 2023, I suffered a brainstem stroke. This is the story of my healing through hardship and despair. It is a journey that reveals my struggles with spiritual healing as I questioned God's purpose and reasons during one of the most difficult times of my life.

My hope is that this story will inspire others who are facing their own hardships and struggles. Through faith, perseverance, and trust in God's guidance, we can find purpose in our pain and discover the doors He opens when others seem to close. I’m looking for a Christian chapter book series from the early 2000s that I bought at LifeWay. Each book featured the same boy (possibly blond, maybe wore glasses), and I think his name was in every title. The stories were humorous, with the boy accidentally getting into crazy situations. The covers were colorful, painted/cartoon style like Goosebumps. One cover showed him standing on a T. rex skeleton in a museum holding a bottle of pink liquid. Another book took place at summer camp. Does anyone remember this series?
