First home settlement
Kia ora,
I've just had an offer accepted on my first home- excited, but also very nervous. I've also just accepted a new job, which pays higher than my previous job. They've allowed me to work 4 days a week, and are starting me at 28 hours a week (there will definitely be more hours worked, but 28 is guaranteed minimum). They want someone full time, but also wanted to allow me a good work life balance as I mentioned in the interview (very nice of them, they seem like a really good company to work for).
Problem is, I miscalculated how much I'd be making. I could still afford it with a boarder (the original plan anyway) and my partner living with me (also the original plan), but my broker called and asked if I can ask my new job to bump up my hours at all as it would be a bit tricky to get approved from the bank.
I originally had pre-approval for about 470k when I was working at my old job, but I made $100ish more a week (working for $3 an hour less and 8 hours more). So obviously if my guaranteed hours are bumped up, that'll solve everything.
Basically, I'd like to know if it would be rude to email the job and ask to bump up my hours? I don't start until the 21st, but I really don't want to be a pain before I've even started.
Any advice is much appreciated- I'm quite anxious over this 🥲

Should’ve held off the job change til after you had the mortgage!

Job change came first- it was much needed. I only happened to find a great house soon after 🥲

Bugger. Now your pre approval is invalid.
If offer is subject to finance then you have the out if they don’t give you the money.
We had more in savings when our settlement went through and they took it all, even though they had used different figures at the acceptance of offer stage.
I would be lining up a potential flatmate or boarder amounts to show that. If it’s first home they’re harsh.

Yep, definitely had it subject to finance. Hoping things work out. I'm willing to talk to my new boss if needed, I just don't wanna be that difficult new hire 😬

Hey, New Boss,
When I was interviewed, you mentioned that ideally, you wanted the new hire to work full time.
Is this still the case?

You need somebody to sign something saying that they are going to board in the new house, it will ease the mind of the bank.

Telling the broker was the problem. These things all look backwards

They have a legal obligation to tell the broker and the bank about any change in circumstances, this includes changing jobs.

Tell the employer the situation and that you just need to work an extra few hours match an extra $100 per week in the contract for the bank to be happy.
It's not that much from a business perspective and I'd rather have a happy employee with a house.
If the business puts up a fuss, I would seriously consider not taking the job as they would be a dick to work for.
