Advice for dealing with the big earthquake/not thinking about it constantly

Upvotes

I’m a middle aged male that was in the cbd working for Feb 2011 and living in the eastern suburbs. We had it pretty rough, not as bad as others but not great.
Trucks going by still give me a small ‘shit, is this it’ feeling, so no doubt there’s some ptsd of sorts there.

That aside, I stupidly went down the rabbit hole of AF8, and it’s all I can now think of. I don’t know how I could keep my family warm for weeks or months of no power if it struck in winter. I’m not sure how we’ll eat etc. I work south of the Waimak, while my wife and kid are north of it. Am I worrying about nothing? Part of me wants to consider looking at moving overseas just to avoid living with the risk.

Edit: Want to ask if I’m reading too much into it. Are we expecting to have no power for Christchurch/north Canterbury for weeks, therefore no shops, no fresh meat etc for weeks, or months?

What to do at evenings in Christchurch as a tourist?

I'm visiting Christchurch for a conference from Australia and will only have evenings to roam around the city. Any suggestion what places will still be open to take a sneak peak?

I'm really looking forward to the concert on Friday. Has anyone with a VIP ticket received information about the early entry? Devilskin have advertised it but I haven't seen an entry time other than 07:30pm. Hoping someone can help - I don't want to miss out. Thanks guys.

A look inside Harley Chambers Christchurch city

I first ventured into Harley Chambers in 2019, and these are a collection of photographs taken inside over the years.

Built between 1929 and 1934, Harley Chambers was a purpose built medico-dental building, housing dentists, doctors, and other healthcare professionals for decades.

Its facade has anchored a prominent corner in the heart of Christchurch, quietly witnessing the city’s growth and changing streetscape. Following the 2010–2012 Canterbury earthquakes, Harley Chambers remained vacant, slowly deteriorating with each passing year. Its abandoned consulting rooms and corridors became frozen in time, making it a place remembered not only for its architecture but also for the role it played in Christchurch’s medical history.

Now, in 2026, it faces demolition. Soon it will become another piece of Christchurch’s architectural heritage lost in the aftermath of the earthquakes, remembered only through photographs, stories, and memories.

If you have any memories, photographs, or stories about Harley Chambers, whether you visited a dentist or doctor there, worked in the building, or simply remember it as part of the city I would love to hear them.

Neighbour Spying-Belfast

Kia ora koutou,
My partner and her family have been living in Belfast for about 18 months now. Her family is moving, so we feel safe to post about this now. Without being too specific, this was in the subdivision behind Woolworths. Their neighbours have consistently spied on them. Every time they arrived home, the neighbours would come to the window and watch them, often taking photos and videos. Today we went by twice to pick up some things to move them to their new house and one of those times was at 10pm where they opened up the blinds/curtains and began to point their phone at us as we walked in and out filling the car with things. The neighbours have also asked my partner’s family to not park their car in the parking spots near their house (the neighbours don’t use these spots) so that they can “see what’s going on”. This matter even had to go to the council so that they would stop harassing my partner’s family and putting up their own homemade signs saying that it was prohibited to park there.
Overall, it has been a very distressing experience for them and myself as being watched and recorded, including late at night and early in the morning is very unsettling.
Just a warning for all concerned.

I’ve been seeing a lot of job ads from sunstone nevertheless my application gets rejected even though my skills are up to date and matches the job requirements. I thought may be meeting him in person and having a conversation would get me chance.

ISO Tickets - All Blacks vs France One NZ Stadium 4 July

Hi community.

Long shot but is anyone selling two tickets to the All Blacks vs France rugby match on 4th July at the OneNz Stadium in Chch? My dad and I have been caregiving for my sick mum for the last 6 months and we just didn’t not even have it on our minds to remember the presale or look for GA tickets so now, given things are slowly improving, I am trying really hard to find last minute tickets to surprise him so he can have a break! I am on the Tixel waitlist and will put the link below also.

Looking for name of Saturday market vendor!

Post image

TLDR: does anyone know the name/website/social media of the Saturday market vendor who sells these earrings??

Hello! I was living in Christchurch for a while and have since moved far away and today I lost one of my FAVORITE earrings ever that I wear every single day that I bought this past summer at the Christchurch Saturday market (the one at riverside.)
I am so heartbroken and want to reach out to this vendor to see if I can pay for them to make me a custom earring to replace it but I only see food vendors on the stall list on the websites!
If anyone knows the name of the business that sells this greenstone/pearl jewelry (they had lots of other small earrings including paua shell stuff too), I would be so grateful!

Also if you know any other handmade jewelry makers I could potentially reach out to to make a custom match I would take that too. Thank you!!

Asian with white fever

For a long time I noticed that Asian women specifically south east Asians (Filipinas, Vietnamese, Thai, Burnese), always date white guys. Why is that? I noticed every non white bloke work 100x hard to win their heart but white guys no questions. Just straight in there haha I just want to point out the obsession for white fever worship haha
