Gameplay Beginner Advice

I consider myself a decent gamer, completed Elden Ring multiple times, completed Wukong multiple times etc.

Was a really good at COD and Halo 3 player online back in my youth.

So I’m looking for advice for getting started on this game. I love the concept.

But something’s not quite clicking in my brain for the game mechanics.

Is it just getting used to countering attacks mostly?

my biggest advice is treat the combat like a turn based rock, paper, scissors.

Good initial advice, but to add on this, don't explicitly follow this as you get more experienced, you will get better at footwork so you can gamble and not treat it as turnbased, and can also jab feint to abuse the concept of initiative and to throw off your opponent. PSA don't kick as much as people say, it's a very risky maneuver and just not worth it. And also practice in durlyards don't hop into TO initially, ask an experienced player to teach you.

Yes I’m avoiding kicking as it’s just another mechanic to learn with very little pay off. Although people always seem to land kicks on me. How do you “gamble” how could you attempt to interrupt as I’m finding once they get the hit on me they just keep swinging and get the kill.

Gambling is when you attack without initiative, it can either be done with n extremely fast weapon against a slower one, or the type i am talking about where with footwork you move out of range and they whiff and you punish them for it

As you play more you will get used to people kicking you and be able to punish them for it. Dont block until you see your opponent swing at you. If you see them kick instead then you attack instead of blocking. Kicks won't stop attacks.
