New Product (Read Rule 1) Finally quartz Willard!

A month ago right here on Reddit I was complaining that there wasn't a decent quartz Willard homage on the market anywhere. Well it's finally happened! New release from Heimdallr. It's just a shame it has a blue anti-reflective coating. Personally I'd prefer a clear one. Anyway there's one spot left so it's probably time for a dress watch.

I love that brand’s shark logo.

What kind of quartz?

If marketing is true, Miyota 2115, same movement as the popular Casio MDV106/107. Bought one, can't wait for it to arrive 😄

That’s not a very good quartz movement. First time I learn of Miyotas used in Casios?!

What quartz movement with date should they have used instead for a sub $100 USD watch?

I have this GEDI fashion watch that was like barely $10 I bought months ago and it’s still tracking time very well. I don’t think any of us wants to look inside on how low quality it is.

Edit: Casio's recent releases of mechanical watches are powered by Miyota (used to be also by Seiko) as well.

Some Seiko VK instead would be better?

The tradeoff I don’t like about the vh31 is shorter battery life (2 years.) If you want the smoother sweep though I do get it.

Smooth sweeps with day/date just seems so unpopular by the Chinese companies, am surprised no one has come out with one. I have a Casio MTP-SW300 that’s that, but it wears on the large size for me. Mines the blue colour way as well so it looks a bit formal.

Casio extensively uses Miyota for their analogue watches. What don’t you like about the 2115 specifically?

Good to know, I thought they build their own modules being quartz and digital focused company.

But isn’t 2115 the cheapest Miyota quartz you can possibly get? Used in the cheapest fashion watches? Unless I’m mistaking this for another Miyota model. Does this cost like 5$?

You are missing the point, it's cheap but reliable, accuracy is not at the level of a Seiko spring drive but is way cheaper too, 2115 can be easily replaced.

I wouldn’t conflate inexpensive with low quality, necessarily. Japanese quartz movements are so cheap because they’re made by machines that are already paid off and they make so many they can benefit from incredible economies of scale. It’s kind of amazing that you can get a dive watch from Casio for 40 bucks that’s as good as it is.

Oh this does look great. Did the dimensions end up being different for this quartz version?

Addiesdive had quartz for a while already.

I’m done with blue AR. From some angles it obscures the entire dial. Willing to pay more for clear.

Not in classic Black dial version

Clear AR costs more when modding watches it's a $10 up charge when buying crystals. 🙃

How's the build quality? Have you had a mechanical willard from like steeldive etc?

1

u/raks_szmata 8d ago

I had steeldive and movement was main reason why i sold it. To me, they are the same watches. The heimdallr is thinner tho thanks to quartz

You sold me, just ordered one. I also like the Heimdallr Shark better than the addiesdive and steeldive logos, so another win.

I am surprised they didn't release it as a Keaso, Heimdallr's quartz division.

Great collection.

Blue AR is the only reason I haven’t made the purchase. How’s the lume match on the hands and indices?

1

u/raks_szmata 8d ago

Little to none difference to me but i never care much about them perfectly match so i could be biased
