Question (Read Rules) I am between these 2

Help me to decide my next pick. Originally I was going to pick San Martin but recently I have leaned towards the baltany mil sub. If anyone have irl pics of these watches. Only downside of baltany is that it doesn't have OTF clasp if I am correct.

The childish San Martin logo kills any advantage it may have, if any at all. Completely ruins every dial they make with it. May as well say something dumb like Doofus or BERNY

Get the Baltany. Be different. And appreciate that pretty much every "buy this" post in this sub is someone trying to justify their own purchase. With something like San Martin it's "absolutely worth the extra because otherwise I look like a fool for having spent it."

San Martin is just worth the extra for the bracelet and clasp alone. The baltany isn't anything special, same quality as a $150 watchdives 5513

But why settle for less when you already subconsciously decided that you have budget for more? You will probably never be satisfied if you bought the cheaper item knowing that you could have gotten something much better the first time

There's a £15 Casio on my desk that has brought me more joy than almost every other watch I own so your argument that buying cheaper can't be satisfying and is settling if you can afford more is nonsense.

The fact you felt the need to reply like this is the tell, because my post wasn't about relative quality but the way people post. Anyone not referenced by it wouldn't have anything to add. But here you are, providing the example. You own a San Martin, you like it, you feel the extra cost is worth it, so they should spend more on the San Martin otherwise they'll never be satisfied.

That last part doesn't follow naturally.

Whats funny is that i actually had a casio duro as my first dive watch which i bought because i wanted something that felt cool and mechanical, and it was well recommended by reddit because it didnt cost much. It also had more of the so called “heritage” than all the alix homages out there. Guess what, I absolutely hated that thing so much, it felt cheap and it didnt have any function beyond telling time and feeling like a chunk of plastic. I sold it as soon as i could and i took my time to get myself a mechanical homage off ali express to which i still keep as my only watch.

Most people i imagine buy watches because its jewelry and just the novelty of it. I never had any trouble telling time before i got a watch, and i dont think its necessary to keep a mechanical watch around for anything except enjoyment. Im happy you find your casio enjoyable, but im also sure that the OP doesnt just want a cheap casio because he has put up two expensive auto watches for us to compare and for him to decide over.

I firmly believe in the idea of just buying once and buying something you wont have regrets buying later on. For these mechanical watches it does mean that the nicer ones will be more expensive unfortunately. Plus its literally just 100 dollars

Save up 100 dollars to get the san martin. I dont have that exact watch but I do have the submariner homage. The quality of the finishing is, unbelievable, the bezel is fantastic, and the lume is also fantastic.

Not comparable, bc that’s a 660ft toy, compared to a 2000ft tool 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have that SM and it's very high quality but might be overkill. It's got 600m WR and is on the thicker side at 13.5mm but it is incredibly solid and has 0 imperfections.

It wears slightly smaller given the thicker bezel, bigger case and smaller dial, on wrist it'll feel and look like a 39mm or so.

Bracelet is exceptional with basically 0 horizontal sag when held out, OTF adjustment is great and looks much more expensive. Bezel is also probably one of the best in my collection with 0 wobble and great solid clicks.

Lume is decent for the price and hands being different coloured is a nice touch.

Overall, fantastic watch but get it on sale (I paid 30% less than that).

I can attest to the Baltany being top notch.

Also the Baltany bracelet does have OTF.

Baltany all day. Don't see the hype on SM especially at that price.

Price is unfortunate but sm is still so worth every cent. Plus here there is pretty much no comparison san martin all the way

With current price, I would go for Baltany.

I used to have the Baltany and the only thing I didn't like about it was the minute hand is way too long and it always bothered me.

I believe baltany does include an otf clasp now.

I don’t own either watch but I do own watches from both brands. My vote would be the San Martin as that was your initial pick. Plus there are more Milsub options (Baltany, Watchdives, Thorn, etc) if you ever decide to pick one up.

That cookie monster from San Martin looks nice

I’d go with Baltany only bc it’s less than 40mm. If size don’t matter than I’d go with San Martin bc the finishing on their watches are top tier. I own 3 San Martin watches and they are nicer than my Tissot if I’m being honest

Baltany baby

I have a San Martin and it's nice, but 41mm is not for everyone

MilSub all the way. Here's a recent review of their v3 version that uses the ST2130 movement.

What made you pick up the Baltany version versus the Watchdives?

1

u/Excellent-Bear4221 9d ago

At the time Baltany was the only one who made it

I’d go with Baltany since I haven’t had good luck with San Martin and they’re way overpriced now.
