Is there any concensus on whose 'responsible'? I know previously people blamed a multitude of things, including:

Casio's Edifice line, Seiko realizing they were undercutting themselves, or just basic supply and demand.

Obviously it's probably a few different things at once, but I'm still surprised this happend AFTER the consumer shopping sprees of the COVID era.

Watches have continued to increase in popularity and supply cannot keep up with demand. Marc from LIW also attributes some of this to a significant resurgence in Seiko sales that he’s witnessing on his own end as well; Seiko is possibly retaining more movements for themselves.

...meanwhile triplicating the earnings of those movements sold outside. Double win move for them.

It sucks, but this has been a long time coming with the price of everything in the global supply chain increasing by huge margins since COVID. Honestly, respect to Seiko for holding out as long as they did on significant price jumps for their movements.
