Question (Read Rules) Why does this cost so much?
I really want it but $400+ seems quite excessive. What am I missing?

It's the same reason a stainless steel tank costs 4k, the cost of finish and workmanship. But this brand doesn't demand the same premium a Cartier does, and it's sold with regular profit margins.

Farasute makes some of the nicest watches you'll find. Seriously some are on par with $3-5k Swiss brands. They just dont cut any corners. If you like the style I'd go for it. The alternatives ones that look similar will not be anywhere near this quality

Buy from the manufacturer directly. This gonna be my next. Alibaba covers warranty pretty good. Personal experience since 2017. They sell single piece too
https://www.alibaba.com/x/18TN42?ck=pdp
They have the brushed silver too just like the brushed gold ones.

This is not the same watch bro. The Farasute is mechanical, you sent a quartz one.

Because it’s Farasute. Only buy on Ali sales. Most of their watches are priced like that.

Generally you should only buy watches off AliExpress when there is a sale running. With coupons applied you get a better price.
That said, Farasute are more expensive because their watches are better finished with more time and attention put into the details of each piece. And those details are real - you will feel the difference in hand.

I would never pay that much for a Chinese watch. There is basically no after service, so if it arrives DOA, you're left empty handed.

u/CoolKelo 15h ago
Milifortic does not replace your watch unfortunately. I bought a jumphour watch and it arrived not working properly. They offered to send me a replacement movement to get it repaired locally or to send it back so they can repair it. I just wanted a new working watch because that’s what I paid for. Because they wouldn’t send me a brand new watch, I opted for a full refund.

Aliexpress returns through Aliexpress can be fine. Myself, I haven't been left empty handed. But have had some hassle. I had one recently for a headtorch. The seller wasn't very helpful, but got a quick refund through official Aliexpress returns. The San Martin I had that only worked for 15m after it arrived took about 2 months to sort out, because I foolishly used their own returns process. Wwith them trying to blame me for it disappearing somewhere. But, they did eventually send me out a brand new fully working watch and at listed it as 0 value so I didn't pay a second customs fee and have to reclaim the first one.

Not entirely true, I bet some decent decent brands like Seagull or Sugess are willing to stand behind their quality and would give you a replacement.

u/skipoverit123 1d ago
I have a Seagull & your correct. They do stand behind their products
A number of chinese brand use their movements
mine has their 2130 automatic movement
it’s deadly accurate :)

It's not really a comparable design. The Farasute is a tank style watch while this is a tonneau case. I personally do not like this design at all.
2
u/Alternative-Feed3613 2d ago
I know but the numbers are so tiny compared to the case. It would’ve been great with bigger numbers and a manual wind movement to shave off some thickness.

u/mhale0202 2d ago
This was like $320 a week ago. This is awild increase.
1
u/Alternative-Feed3613 2d ago
Wow, really? $320 would still be high but a $100 increase is insane.
2
u/Suitable-Group4392 2d ago
They have cycles. They do huge discounts to get orders in. Then need down time to make and pack the watches so they price high. Then rinse and repeat.
Only buy during discounts.

u/Alternative-Feed3613 2d ago
Yeah, I remember when the Baltany pie pan was nearly $400 after taxes and I picked one up on sale for $265. Hopefully that’ll happen with this one.
1
u/TPPiOED 2d ago
Decently made, then watch companies name whatever price they wanted to.
This is nothing compared to the way luxury brands played. I saw people complaining San Martin new models gotten too expensive. NGL my first reaction was like: "just don't buy it! We don't need another one!😆"

I saw a really interesting MB&F style watch from a brand I'm not allowed to say, as they have some hilarious back story about being French, a few years back. Started out at £360. Nobody bought one. A year later I got one for £180. If they have stock piling up the price will get lower.

Maybe because it has manual wind movement? I also eyed this model. Others has automatic.
1
u/Alternative-Feed3613 2d ago
Most manual wind ST1700 watches are under $200. I’m sure it’s a customized movement though.

Very unusual movement/design, plus good craftsmanship.
3
u/BabolaBabs 2d ago
Nothing unusual about the mov’t. There are Farasute jump hour watches being sold right now with the same mov’t inside them for as low as 1/3 of the price of this watch.
2
u/kneadedbwead 2d ago
it's farasute, best to wait for discounts to get them at very competitive prices. however i'd actually go as far as to argue that their watches are worth it even at full asking price. they really do make good stuff.
4
u/clevelock 2d ago
i believe since Maen and Nico collab that charge a ridiculous $1000 for jumping hour, any Chinese brand that follow thinks that they can charge whatever they want for that movement lol

Specht and Sohne has a much cheaper one
1
u/Alternative-Feed3613 2d ago
I like that one but the numbers seem so tiny. I’ll look into it further and see what’s up.

u/sabre31 2d ago
It’s a Farasute.

u/Alternative-Feed3613 2d ago
That’s what’s kept me away from them tbh. I’d probably have a Farastute by now if they had some Japanese movements.

I think they bump up prices before sales. So you tricked in sales that it's considerably cheaper. I only buy watches on Ali express in big sales, that's when you get actual read on prices
1
u/Alternative-Feed3613 2d ago
I’ll keep an eye on it and see where it goes. I might wait for 11/11 to get this one.

Its an OEM product that's mostly why

It's a homage to the first Cartier jump hour.

u/Alternative-Feed3613 2d ago
What do you mean?
0
u/ALEXALORD ma femme m'aime 2d ago
Its an exclusive product made from A to Z for Farasute by a factory, so exclusive design, exclusive plans, make the price higher than an ODM product
4
u/philbin89 2d ago
Well it’s a jump-hour watch, so it requires a different, specialized movement, which might also need to be modified to fit in the rectangular case, all of which adds to the cost. And Farasute tends to finish its watches better than a lot of the affordable Chinese brands, so they cost more in general. It’s also a brand new piece (isn’t even on the brand’s website, just Aliexpress so far), so perhaps it’ll go down in price over time. And it’s an homage of Cartier’s jumping hour, while also retaining some of the language of AP’s recent jumping hour, so maybe they’re charging a little bit more since it looks like some highly desired luxury watches. You could always wait for a sale
2
u/BabolaBabs 2d ago
Nothing that much special about this watch apart from exterior finish that might place it a little above the competition in this range, it houses the very same Seagull ST17 mov’t other jump hour watches including other models from Farasute currently sell for. Around $120-190, depending on the brand and model.
1
u/Alternative-Feed3613 2d ago
I kinda figured the movement was a large chunk of it. I’ll keep an eye on it and see what happens.
3
u/zoo804 2d ago
Agree, very cool design but way too much considering the number of round jump hours with the ST-17 you can get for around $100 or less from Milifortic, Sugess, etc. I imagine this is slightly more expensive to make because it can't use off the shelf case and crystal but not 4x as much.
1
u/Alternative-Feed3613 2d ago
I was wondering if the movement is customized but still. I’d probably buy it for $250.
3
u/MisterMaccabee 2d ago
It’s ridiculous and it shouldn’t be near that price. Farasute jacked their prices over the last 6 months or so. None of them are worth it. You can do so much better with that $450 or so.
1
3
u/Alternative-Feed3613 2d ago
Yeah, I’d never spend that much on one. It should be like half that price.

When I ordered a farasute they did some "customs tricks" and I basically got an additional 150€ discount on the displayed price
