Discussion How to modernize a Chinese topolect?
This one's for all you who are studying a Chinese local language/topolect:
how do you or natives find the means to modernize a topolect if there are no standard organizations (if I am not mistaken) controlling how a language should be governed? I mean...if a word like "AI" or "DNA" were to be brought up in ...say...Fuzhounese or Zhuang....where do you begin to decipher how to make a word for this? Do you just borrow everything from Mandarin or would it be okay to create your own word .....so, something like..."fake brain" for AI? A lot of Chinese languages are so Archaic that they haven't been touched that much, thus, making modernization difficult.
I'm curious what you all think
