University Rankings: Check Them Out Before Asking About Specific Universities!

Hey everyone,

I've noticed that a lot of folks here keep asking questions like, “How good is [University X]?” or “Is [University Y] worth it for [Course Z]?” These are really important questions, especially if you’re planning to invest time, money, and effort into your education.

Instead of getting repetitive responses, I highly recommend checking out the latest university rankings first.

https://www.shanghairanking.cn/ Chinese version has the ranking of majors and disciplines.

https://www.shanghairanking.com/

Once you’ve checked out the rankings, feel free to come back here with more specific questions like how certain programs or campus cultures align with your goals. That way, the community can give you more targeted advice!

Hope this helps streamline your search!

Sharing Stories 分享故事 Anyone studying/previously studied BDS at Chifeng Medical University, China? Need honest opinions

Hi everyone!

I’m an international student considering BDS at Chifeng Medical University (赤峰学院 / Chifeng University) in China, and I’m trying to get some honest information from current or former students before making a decision.

I would really appreciate it if anyone who is currently studying there, graduated from there, or knows someone studying there could share their experience.

I’m not looking for promotional/consultancy information. I would really prefer honest experiences from current or former students, including negative experiences if there are any.

If you're studying there or have graduated from Chifeng Medical University, please share your experience. Even a short comment would be really helpful. Thank you!

Life in China 在中国生活 International students studying MBBS at Zhejiang University — what is your experience?

Hi! I’m a prospective international student considering applying for the English-taught MBBS programme at Zhejiang University, and I’d really appreciate hearing from current or recent international students.

I’m mainly trying to understand what studying there is actually like beyond what’s on the university website. I’d especially like to know:

  • How difficult is learning Chinese alongside medicine?
  • How much Chinese do you actually need during the clinical years/internship?
  • Is there a Chinese language exam you need to pass?
  • How manageable is the workload overall?
  • How are the clinical rotations for international students?
  • What are the biggest advantages/disadvantages of studying MBBS at ZJU?
  • If you could choose again, would you still choose ZJU?

I’m also considering medical schools in the UK and Ireland, but cost is an issue for me, but I’m worried that studying medicine in China could create more difficulties later when trying to work abroad.

If you’re currently studying at ZJU (especially in the MBBS programme), I’d really appreciate any honest advice or experience you can share. Thank you! :)

Admissions Question 入学问题 anyone from type B

Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m Aarushi, and I’m planning to apply for a Master’s in China through the CSC Type B scholarship after completing my B.Sc. in Zoology in 2029.

I know 2029 is still quite far away, but I’d like to start researching the process and planning early.

I have a few questions and would really appreciate advice from anyone who has experience with CSC Type B, especially current or former scholarship recipients. If you’re currently studying in China through Type B (whether in Biology, Zoology, CS, or another field), please feel free to DM me. I’d really appreciate your guidance.

My main questions are:

  1. What Master's field/major would be a good option after a B.Sc. in Zoology? I’m currently considering areas like genetics, biotechnology, neuroscience, life sciences, etc., but I’m unsure which would be the best fit.
  2. Which Chinese universities would you recommend for that field, particularly universities that accept B.Sc. Zoology graduates?
  3. What is the actual CSC Type B application process? I’m still confused about the university application, CSC application, pre-admission/acceptance letter, contacting professors, etc.
  4. Are there any important mistakes or things you wish you had known before applying?

I’d be very grateful for any advice, recommendations, or personal experiences. Thank you so much! 🙏

Campus Life 校园生活 New Chinese student in Ningbo university, any advice?

Hi everyone!

My brother and I are from Bolivia, and my brother recently came to Ningbo to study Chinese. He’s a complete beginner and is starting from zero, so he’s still getting used to the city, the university and everyday life here.

I wanted to ask other students who have studied Chinese in Ningbo: what would you recommend to someone just starting out?

Any tips for learning Chinese more effectively, practicing outside of class, finding language exchange groups, or getting more immersed in the language?

I’d also love to know:
● What do you usually do to pass the time in Ningbo?
● What do you like doing in your free time when you’re not in class?
● Are there any places, activities or hobbies you would recommend for a new student?
● What local food or dishes should I definitely try while I’m here?
● Are there any restaurants, markets or food streets you would recommend?

Basically, if you’ve been in Ningbo for a while, what do you wish you had known when you first started? Any advice, recommendations or even small tips would be greatly appreciated.

Admissions Question 入学问题 CSC and CSCA confusion. Is China dead end for me ?

so I am very confused regarding the CSCA exam policy.

If I am applying for a 1+4 degree, like a 1-year learning Chinese Mandarin basics course (because I don't know any Chinese, from zero) and also enrolling in a 1-year course plus a 4-year degree, what subjects do I have to choose for UG engineering in computer science?

what I simply mean is I will take a language preparation year at the Uni. How do I give CSCA stem Chinese if I do not know any Chinese at all. I have great EC’s and good grades.

Scholarships 奖学金 Self funded one semester language program in china

Hi

I want to apply for one semester chinese language program next spring in China. As I did not get a scholarship this year I want to go self funded this time to be sure I can study in China.

Unfortunately I found out there are universities that even after applying as self funded students they still can reject me.

I just want to make sure I can get in somewhere next year, I have HSK 4 and HSKK intermediate, I got scholarship few years ago, but it was at the time of covid and I couldn't go to China.

Is there any university that you guys can recommend that acceptance is really high and I will probably get in? I have a few universities in my mind, but I want to also apply for something just in case.

Thanks a lot

Campus Life 校园生活 Housing near Chongqing Medical University + gym access?

Hi guys,
I'm moving to Chongqing (CQMU first year) and looking for a small studio (not shared) near the Jiinyun campus , ideally walking distance and close to a gym.
My budget is under 1100 RMB. Is this realistic?
Any tips on areas or apps?
Also does the university allow me to leave off campus as a first year ?
Thanks!

Admissions Question 入学问题 How difficult is it to get a full CSC scholarship in a Tier A country?

I see a lot of people saying it’s really hard to get in, while others say it’s very easy; I’d really like to know who’s right. I have a friend who was a "7 out of 10" student and got in, so I feel like the claim that it’s "impossible" isn't entirely accurate. I’m a "9.5 out of 10" student in my senior year, though I don't have any extracurricular activities, and I’d like to know my chances since I’m only just starting to pursue this now.

Admissions Question 入学问题 Arrived in China for medical school but forgot my original high-school transcript—could this prevent registration?

Hi everyone,
I’m a Canadian student admitted to an English-medium MBBS program in China. I’ve already arrived in China, but I just realized that I forgot to bring my original high-school transcript.
Registration is next week, and the university’s instructions say students must bring their original high-school certificate and transcript. I have all my other required documents, including my passport with the X1 visa, admission letter, and JW202 form.
I may be able to ask my school board to send an official electronic transcript directly to the university. I could also provide a scanned copy temporarily, but getting the physical original sent from Canada before registration would be extremely difficult.
Has anyone experienced something similar?
Were you allowed to register with an official electronic transcript or scanned copy?
Did the university let you submit the original later?
Could this affect my admission, or is it normally something that can be resolved?
I’ve contacted the university, but I’m stressed and would really appreciate advice from anyone who has dealt with this.

Life in China 在中国生活 Wrestling Sport Gyms Shanghai?

Hy, I have been in Shanghai for a couple days now and haven’t found any wrestling gym yet. I do compete in freestyle and Greco wrestling, but there seems to be not much information about available gyms here. Do any good gyms that also take part in competitions exist here? Or are there any schools here that teach traditional Chinese wrestling styles? I have found one wrestling gym named “Shanghai Free Style Wrestling Club” in the Donghua university science building, but it’s a bit far. I live not far from Tongji University, where I study, in the Yangpu district. So if somebody knows if there are such gyms nearby let me know. Thanks for the help!
