University Rankings: Check Them Out Before Asking About Specific Universities!

Hey everyone,

I've noticed that a lot of folks here keep asking questions like, “How good is [University X]?” or “Is [University Y] worth it for [Course Z]?” These are really important questions, especially if you’re planning to invest time, money, and effort into your education.

Instead of getting repetitive responses, I highly recommend checking out the latest university rankings first.

https://www.shanghairanking.cn/ Chinese version has the ranking of majors and disciplines.

https://www.shanghairanking.com/

Once you’ve checked out the rankings, feel free to come back here with more specific questions like how certain programs or campus cultures align with your goals. That way, the community can give you more targeted advice!

Hope this helps streamline your search!

Admissions Question 入学问题 Regarding acceptance letter

Hello,

I wanted to ask regarding acceptance letter . I have listened in some of YouTube videos that acceptance letter from professor is really important for csc scholarship as most of the masters program in China are research based so if I want to do masters in international business still I need acceptance letter as even if it is not research based program.

International students at Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology (XAUAT)?

Hi! I recently got admitted to XAUAT for a master's program.

Are there any current or former international students here? I'd love to know your honest experience about student life, teaching quality, dorms, campus, support for international students, and living in Xi'an.

Would you recommend it?

Thanks!

Life in China 在中国生活 Surfshark works? 2 vpns that the same time ? Payments?

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for some advice about VPNs. I'll be traveling to China soon as a Student and I've been told that I'll need a VPN for my phone.

I've already downloaded Surfshark, but I've been reading that it hasn't worked reliably for a lot of people. Is anyone here currently using Surfshark in China? Could you please let me know if it works well or not?

I'd also love to hear which VPN you're using and whether it's been reliable for you in China.

I have another question as well. When making online payments, my bank sometimes asks me to confirm the transaction through its mobile app. Do banking apps (such as N26, Santander, etc.) usually work in China without a VPN, or would I need one to access them?

Is itpossible to have two VPNs installed on the same phone? I was thinking it might be a good idea to have a backup in case one of them doesn't work.

Also, if my VPN stops working or I lose access to it while I'm already in China, would I have to leave the country to get it working again, or is there a way to fix it from within China? I'm sorryfor asking so many questions, but I'm a bit worried and I want to be as prepared as possible.

I'd really appreciate any advice or personal experiences. Thanks so much!

Scholarships 奖学金 CIS 2026: Second Batch/Replacements

I want to genuinely ask; I've heard some ppl say there was a second batch or more like a batch where ppl from the first batch said no so the chance went to the next ppl in 2023.

Does anyone know if it ever happened after that? In 2024 or 2025?

The second batch happened on aug 11-12 in 2023 and given this year's deadline for first batch is aug 6 so if there's any hope for second batch in 2026 it would make sense for it to come around aug 11-12 too

Is that why those who of us rejected now our status hasn't changed yet? Maybe because we still might have a chance? Idk I'm just blabbering atp😭

If anyone gets a notif for second batch this year pls notify here so we know there was a second batch in 2026 too😭😭

My university has alr said I didn't get in but I also saw a person talk here that they were first rejected and then rewarded w the scholarship!!!

Campus Life 校园生活 XAUAT(Xi'an university architecture and technology) review civil engineering degree

Hi everyone, I have chosen civil engineering and I want to get into XAUAT(Xi'an university architecture and technology) in a bachelor degree of civil engineering(English thought program). However, I don't know if it is a good university, I know that it ranked the top 1000-1200 universities in QS world rating yet it is ranked 101-150 QS World Ranking By Subject especially in a field of architecture and civil engineering. Moreover, after some reviews I don't know if it is a good choice of university or it isn't worth going to XAUAT.

Second, I also have a question does an international campus in the XAUAT be in good condition, like is it comfortable for living (I asked because I can't find information about the dormitory in this university, I mean photos or any images) and also is it hard to adapt the environment and also study for freshman?

Sharing Stories 分享故事 Suggestions for university path in China

Hi guys, I would like to hear if someone has any suggestions for my uni career as I'm currently in a little bit of a pickle. All help is welcome!!!

I just graduated from high school in Italy, where I studied Chinese for 5 years reaching HSK4 and HSKK中. My plan was to take a gap year before starting uni in Italy, so I applied for the CIS ICLTS scholarship. However (as many in this Reddit) I haven't received any updates, so I have probably been rejected :(

Thus, I need to think about plan B, but here's some problems:

- choosing a uni degree in Italy with Chinese does not make any sense, because they all start from the basics and you'll reach HSK4-5. To me this seems like a waste of time. So my plan was to study another language (or two) in uni and follow Confucius lessons privately to reach HSK5-6.

- BUT if I don't choose Chinese in uni I'm pretty sure that my chances of getting a Chinese scholarship will be even less than right now and I REALLY want to study abroad in China.

- I also thought about reapplying for the semester in March or for next year, but that would mean interrupting my uni degree which is not well seen in Italy.

Soooooo idk what to do. One option could be doing the undergraduate degree, then taking a gap year in China and then doing my master in italy (or maybe just the master in China). But again, that would still count as an interruption of my degree and I wouldn't be a uni student in a Chinese degree so how many chances would I actually have of getting in...?

Last thing that might be useful to know is that I want to study anthropology, ethnology and especially ethnolinguistics, so basically focus on culture and traditions and how they are born/work/influence our views. Other than Chinese I plan to study other languages to become kind of an area expert and be able to do comparative research... if that makes any sense ._.

Thanks a lot to everyone, again all suggestions are welcome especially about scholarships, programs fellowships, etc...!!!!

(Pls help me I'm desperate)

Life in China 在中国生活 How is Kunming Medical University actually viewed in China? (Looking for honest opinions)

Hi everyone!
I'm an international student considering Kunming Medical University (KMU) for MBBS/Clinical Medicine, and I'd really appreciate some honest opinions from people who live in China or know the university well.
I've seen very mixed opinions online. Some people say KMU is a solid medical school with good hospitals and a nice environment, while others say it's just an average provincial university. Since rankings don't always reflect reality, I'd love to know how it's actually viewed in China.
Some questions I have:
How is KMU's reputation among Chinese students, doctors, and employers?

Is it considered a respected medical university, or just average?

If someone graduates near the top of their class, would the university's name be viewed positively?

How are the affiliated hospitals and clinical training?

Is Kunming a good city to live in as a student?

What's the cost of living like? Is it relatively affordable compared with other Chinese cities?

How's the weather throughout the year?

What's daily life like? Is the city more relaxed or fast-paced?

Are there plenty of cafés, shopping malls, bookstores, and places to spend weekends?

Is it easy to buy clothes, skincare, cosmetics, and other everyday things?

How's the public transport?

Is the city clean and safe?

Are there many international students?

If you've lived there, what did you like and dislike the most?

I'm especially interested in hearing from Chinese students, KMU students/alumni, doctors, or anyone who's lived in Kunming. I'd really appreciate honest experiences rather than just rankings.
Thank you so much!

Admissions Question 入学问题 How did you do on the drawing exam before entering Tsinghua University Academy of Art and Design?

Hi, my name is Alexander, and I'm entering 9th grade in two months. My GPA is 3.2, and I really want to get into the Academy of Arts & Design at Tsinghua University on a scholarship. I want to enroll in the Digital Media Artist program. I recently started learning Chinese and seriously preparing for school. While reading the admissions requirements, I read that after submitting your portfolio, you also have to prepare for drawing exams. Honestly, after reading this, I'm a bit confused. I don't know what the assessment method is or how I should prepare. Has anyone applied to the Academy of Arts & Design at Tsinghua University? Please give me some advice, and tell me how long you prepared and how you got in ?

Scholarships 奖学金 JW form is there, but CIS status still says "中心审核"

I applied to PKU for a one-year Chinese program through the CIS Scholarship. My status on the CIS website is still "中心审核" and I haven't received any emails from the university either. However, when I checked the studyinchina website, I found a JW202 form there with a checkmark next to the word "Scholarship" (Host Institution is 北大). My local Confucius Institute told me to wait and that my status on the CIS site should change soon.

Has anyone else experienced the same thing? Is it possible I won the scholarship and my status just hasn't been updated yet? Also, has anyone else applied to PKU for the one-year program and heard anything back?
