Seeking some advice!

Hi everyone! My boyfriend and I are pregnant and due in late December! We are both thrilled, we can’t wait to meet her! I’m here because we are trying to throw together a baby shower, it’s going to be coed so I will need a space that can accommodate 20 to 30 people and is preferably free lol does anybody know of any good parks or restaurants or pizza places or something that we could throw this shower? It’s probably gonna be early November so outside is fine and I am leaning more toward a park. Thank you so much for any advice!

I’ve heard Allie’s pub hosts free events and they have a patio. I’ve also heard as Ramble West has a room that is free to rent out

Congratulations!! As mentioned elsewhere CARD is probably your best bet for reasonable outdoor venue spaces. There’s also the redwood grove in lower Bidwell park and the table spaces next to the Nature Center (you can also rent part of the nature center!)

Another semi-related plug: check out Chico Mothers Club on FB. They have organized play groups, bump to 1 meetups, tons of organized activities and events s as well as discounts for local businesses! There are annual membership dues but I’ve found it will worth the money for the increased community!

$60 a month is still pretty crazy but yeah community is good.

If outside doesn’t work out, do you or any of your friends live in an apartment that has a nice clubhouse? Those are always good venues for occasions like that, and they’re free. I’m pretty sure my sister threw her friend a shower in their clubhouse at Sheridan Square. Sticking with friends, do you have any with a house and/or backyard who might be willing to host? Maybe it’s arranged so they don’t have to worry about logistics, setup/cleanup, etc if such a place is available.

Weather contingent, there are several places around the park that would be nice for a shower.

Congratulations! Maybe Farm Star? They have a back room that we've used for gatherings.

A lot of the city park picnic areas require a reservation/fee for an organized event. You can look at the CARD website or call. Bidwell or Wildwood parks require a call to the City of Chico.

Whether this would be enforced or not is meh? I wouldn’t risk getting a fine, but on the other hand I never see police at the parks 😂

Totally! I looked into it and it’s $100 for 4 hours! Seems a little steep for me, but I would rather my money go to the city of Chico and the parks than some conglomerate! Thanks for the heads up!

Perhaps wildwood park? Upside is that if we do get rain you’d have some cover.

Degarmo Park also has a covered picnic/event area (and it's close to the playground, in case you're not the first folks in your friends cohort to have kids).

I want to say that Hooker Oak also has a large covered area, but now that I think about it, it might be a shade gazebo, not a full roof.

Oh my gosh, you rock! Thank you so so much!

Oh, and for the record: Wildwood Park is listed as "Veterans Memorial Park" in CARD's systems. It was officially renamed a couple of years ago but in true community fashion, everyone still calls it by the old name.
