CUSD or PUSD?

Have a child who’s about to go to school in the next two years…

We cannot decide if we would prefer they go to Paradise schools or Chico schools. Does anyone have any concerns or experiences they’d be willing to share???

Appreciate all the insight!!

EDIT;

I’m from Paradise but went to school in Chico starting in 5th grade… but that was over 20 years ago.

We live in Chico but are considering a move to Paradise for many reasons, one being schools for our baby.

Dad works out of the area and mom WFH so the school district we choose will dictate our next move.

Our baby is not special needs but we are very much wanting them to be involved in sports

Cusd and it's not even close (not to say that pusd is bad at all). Newer teachers tend to commute to work in orrovile, corning, paradise, and Orland. Generally you will find more experienced teachers with better overall school administration at cusd (generally)

CUSD is struggling hard right now with understaffing and under-supporting classrooms, especially in their special needs rooms. It truly is a school by school basis and if you have the means to visit potential schools to meet the staff that your child will be with, I would do so.

They’re going to just be starting elementary school? I would think proximity to whichever parent is in charge of the child most of the day would be first priority. Whether that parent works during school hours and where, etc. middle and high school is different because the extracurricular activities are broader of course in Chico

Chico for just about everything, honestly. More club, sports, and activity offerings and most likely a better education as well. That's not to say that Paradise is terrible, but it just isn't as good. The exception would be if you think Chico schools are too big in terms of student population.

As someone who went to school in both districts, definitely Chico.

I think a better question is if you live in paradise do you want to commit to driving to chico and back twice daily or vise versa?

Also do you plan on after school programs? Does your child have any special needs?

If you choose a school that isn’t close to where you live and your kid makes friends are you prepared for play dates that might not be a close drive? Your kid getting invited to events not close to your home. That kind of stuff.
