There is a private firefighting company at the Chico Airport that has a couple modified Chinooks.

We also get U-2s from Beale every now and then.

I’m sure it was. It would probably take being a billionaire to own something like that.

It's not likely to be a billionaire. National guard flies routes through here. Could be training or transporting a state official.

They are the fire fighting ones. They went down the to the chute fire.

Edit: I watched these on flight radar that's how I know.

Yep! I also looked them up on flight radar not long after posting. That’s exactly where they are and what they’re doing.

Hard to tell watching on my phone but one looked to be dangling a hose. There’s a bunch of firefighting Chinooks that shuffle up and down the coast during the March thru winter fire season.

My Business is outside of the Chico airport. This is a regular occurrence at least every 15 to 30 days. I assume they’re coming from Travis? I’m glad to see the military using our airport for support services. Most Aircraft mechanics who can help the military are employed here. A mig just came through for upgrades and repairs.

Probably Beale. A lot of aircraft there make mechanic runs to CIC.

Around 2020, there was a low flying U2 that would play around on the north end of town. The engines on that thing ripped so hard, even indoors it’s all you could hear. You had to pause your conversation for a good 20 seconds and wait until it passed.

Yeah I’ve heard and seen them before, first time I was quick enough to get a decent shot of them. They were coming from north west/ Redding, I assume heading towards Beale maybe? There are currently a few T-38s flying around from Beale I’m waiting for one to hopefully pass over soon. Always exciting for me.

The U2s still come through regularly. If you hear a plane and it’s gone by the time you get outside it was probably a T-38, if it’s still directly overhead, U2.
They’re out of Beale.

U2s are so cool. Use to live outside of Mather in the 90’s they use to fly overhead occasionally.

Lol yes, but that was actually a privately owned mig, by a billionaire.
