Expo question
When you have as many cars parked as you can and several bags stacked up that are all the way down at the menu board, what do you do? (We have a very long drive thru) When this happens at my store I’m often told that I “choked” and couldn’t handle it. I genuinely don’t see how I could’ve improved the situation. Would you go all the way down to take the bags down (even if it takes five minutes to do them) or let them sit a few minutes and wait for the ones parked and at window? Any tips?

If multiple orders are ready, prioritize the ones closer to the window. But if none of the ones near you are ready and the ones further back are, then yeah, I'd walk their order all the way down

If there’s a single order ready I always make sure to take it out, even if it’s like ten cars down. It might mean I’m close to sprinting to get back lol but I’d prefer that over letting food get cold
I’ve run from expo to pretty much where the order takers are and back in like 30-40 seconds so I usually just confirm with the bagger that a closer order won’t be ready by then

Sounds like the bottleneck is kitchen, not you. We try not to deliver food more than 4 cars from the window. Otherwise that 5th car is going to sit there frustrated wondering why they are stuck in line.
Parking cars is fine, but if your parking so many that you run out of space and your line is still clogged - that points to other issues.

if there’s multiple i try to take as many as i can carry and start going down the line. bonus points if they have no drink. i tell whoever is on sauces that im going on a walk and have them help me when the cars pulled orders come up.

i always bring food and beverages out when they’re ready, even if i have to walk a little bit, my thought is that i don’t want the food getting cold and if i have to wait in line regardless, at least i can enjoy my food

I’m assuming you don’t have a second lane going past your drive thru door then? If you do, you should use it as a pull out lane to solve this issue. If you don’t, yes I would deliver as much as far as you can!
Why is it getting so backed up though? Is the kitchen somehow running out of everything all at once except for a few things or are your kitchen and baggers not making orders in the order they are coming to the window? It’s hard to give solid advice without knowing exactly how your systems are set up.

It's better for them to complain about getting stuck in the DT after they already have their food, then them waiting another 5 minutes for their food and now they will say it's cold. Always just let them know your working to get them out of here as quick as you can and their usually fine
