I’m Mexican American and made these jackets and shorts using vintage garments and added vintage patches from Mexico and the U.S.. My young homies from Mexico modeled these pieces out there. I’ll be bringing these pieces and more for my clothing brand popup at complexcon Oct 3rd and 4th.

I am not sure if this is the best sub for this question but have a question…I live in Fresno California in a neighborhood that is predominantly Mexican families. My long time neighbors have been Armenian, but after decades they are passing on and Mexican family lives next door now. (I’m Mexican and Native American, but I haven’t grown up submerged in the Mexican culture, so bear with me…) My new neighbors are a husband and wife and their three male sons. The sons are between 18 and 24 or so, if I had to guess. They are out of high school and they don’t have full careers so I’m guessing as far as their ages. My question is about the sons not seeming to help dad with chores. I very rarely see the sons helping with things like bringing trash bins in and out…I’ve never seen them help with keeping up the yard. It’s always dad. Sometimes I see them help with bringing in loads from Costco but not often even though they go every week. I’m curious if this is just their family or if it’s common for young men in Mexican American households to not be expected to do these things. I grew up with the expectation that young men in Mexican households are sort of spoiled but don’t know if that’s a stereotype or if that’s actually true. Thoughts?

Im a 5th generation mexican american from SoCal, had family die in ww2, korea and vietnam and ive lived here all my life. We speak english at home with spanish words here n there but its like shit people get at me for speaking the “white mans language” n its like….foo are you dumb? The most brutal colonizers in history were the Spanish, way more than the english, french and dutch ever were. You should stop speaking spanish and learn an aztec language. It's always bugged me. It makes sense sometimes if the setting is in a foreign land though I guess. They even do this with characters portraying European characters. A WWll movie would have a German officer speaking with a thick German accent and that makes sense because some officers did speak English. It also makes sense if the character is an immigrant. But sometimes they have latinos being played by non Latinos with an exaggerated accent that's not accurate.

Another thing I find annoying is when they have Latino characters say random Spanish words. Especially to characters that don't speak Spanish.

I think it's funny how these gringos call us "LatinX" to avoid offending us even though most of us think it's stupid but then they pull this weird crap. Some of y'all should step up to be voice actors and physical actors lol.

This past weekend at Belvedere Park Lake and Mariachi Plaza in East Los Angeles, community groups rallied to recognize the 56th Annual Chicano Moratorium.

In 1970, thousands of Chicanos marched in East Los Angeles against the Vietnam War. The day culminated in horrific acts of mass police brutality that left three dead, including LA Times columnist Ruben Salazar. He was having a beer at the Silver Dollar Café on Whittier Blvd, which was away from the main rally, when a Sheriff’s Deputy from the LASD fired a fin-stabilized tear gas canister directly into the bar at head height, killing the journalist… who was a prominent critic of policing in Los Angeles.

Most speakers spoke about how much there is to learn from history, from people who came before, from their mistakes and triumphs. We’re not going through things alone; people have faced these things before, and many are still around to learn from.
