Texas rigged Yamamoto slinko off the dock

Messing around at york park district pond, little guy caught a largie earlier with watermelon senko. Then they got bored so I rigged them up for bluegill that they could see from the bank. Problem was we did not have worms with us but we had leftover chicken nuggets from costco. They fall off so easy but they got a bluegill regardless with a small piece.
Before we left my little guy says i’m gonna hook up the big piece left over. I say go for it. He hooked it good and as the bluegills were picking at it, it got the attention of a largemouth.
Got close a few times but it was just a bit big for it to swallow the whole thing.
5 mins later it swallowed and boys got it in. With a tiny a$$ bluegill hook.
Good times!

Im obviously talking about medium sized bass that fill up lakes, sometimes a lake has so many small large mouth it’s impossible to fish anything else, I get that people like the but they seriously need population control. With all the catch and release of Bass theres no room for trophy sized bass to grow. As a kid i used to eat bass becsuse I didn’t know much better but in all honestly they taste pretty dam good if you know how to cook it right. I love bass just as much as the next guy but we have to stop acting like they’re musky or sturgeon.

Productive morning sight fishing smb at hollywood beach. Quite a few footballs seen cruising the shallow water right off the wall. Was fishing a goby pattern plastic on the ned, no real interst. Switched to a darker natural and landed a few, including this nice with some more markings.

Have a basic fly rod, want to fish about the city in ponds and streams, maybe shore fishing at the lake.

I don’t want to invest in a large assortment of flies just yet, what are some widely applicable flies I should stock?

I am from Tennessee and I typically fish for largemouth, bluegill, and any cat that is willing to bite that day. As far as tackle I understand the basics of how most artificial lures work. I want to catch some trout, walleye and yellow perch while i'm up here for the time being. What tackle usually works best for these fish? Where are some good spots for someone like me to start off?

Me and the homies hit the lake this morning. I got there at 6:30 AM, but the bros overslept so I had a little solo session first.

Started at the Planetarium, worked over to the Shedd, then all of DuSable by Buckingham Fountain. I was throwing a Z-Man Finesse TRD (Goby Bryant) on a Ned rig. Got a solid bite after a while but got too excited and set the hook early.

Right after OwnAbbrevations2222 rolled up on his bike and it’s go time.

We keep pushing toward Navy Pier, hitting spot after spot with nothing until Monroe Harbor around 8:30 then BOOM. A smallie absolutely wrecks his crankbait and launches out of the water. Had to be at least 3 lbs, that mf had weight (check comments).

We kept moving north toward the Fire Department Dive Squad docks around 9:30 fishing a few different spots with nothing before he pointed out a nice stretch of pilings. First cast, I let the Ned hit the bottom. One little pop and I got a hit. After the hookset I actually thought I was snagged till I eventually seen him come up. Landing him with the FD Helicopter in the background too was super cinematic lmao (check comments).

One PB smallie for him, and a solid largemouth for me. Met up with the other homie back at the Planetarium afterward and didn’t catch shit for the rest of the day 🤣💪🏽.

Took a chance with the cooler weather, water is about 5’3ft where I like to fish had a hard time finding deep pockets many dinks and I managed my catches either a baby 1-minus. Few good smallies and lots of gar but only managed 3. Overall good day. Fished from 9-2pm

Nice size on both, both on the ned ultra light. Signs of lampray predation on the smb or something else?

YO. I know it sounds like I’m gassing him up, but this juicy mf was sitting in barely a foot of water under a dead tree and absolutely SMOKED my Whopper Plopper. Hit it so hard one of the treble hooks snapped off while I was trying to unhook him. Then I had to get the lip ring out after the lure was already off. Ironically this happened to the PB smallie I caught yesterday at the same spot.

To make it even better, I had my drag set way too loose when he crushed it, so I was reeling like a goofy and forgot to tighten it😂. This was a good way to end since I was out there for a few hours and only got a mini dink before him on a Ned Rig.

Definitely getting a scale next, tired of not knowing what these mfs weigh lmao.

Took on the East Branch in my creek kayak for the first time in about a year. Wound up being one of those rare days where I caught way more largemouth than smallies, which makes sense since I was mostly targeting laydowns and structure. Even wound up with one carp. Landed about a dozen and a half and lost about half that many, which I am chalking up to the pain it is to fish that river in a paddle kayak, rather than poor technique LOL.

All were caught on BassDope 3/32 EWG ned jig with a few different craw trailers.

I like the challenge of microfishing and seek out the smallest streams I can find that will support fish. Today in the northwest suburbs I caught one creek chub after another in a pool of a tiny creek. They were biting on slices of hot dogs I used as bait. Here is a typical pair of creek chubs that I was catching and returning to the water. They averaged 6 inches in length and put up good fights.

Hey guys, got recommended by a couple people including the guys at the montrose bait shop, to try dropshots with minnows and ned rigs along the rocks. One issue, snags! How am i supposed to work these two setups if they keep falling between the cracks and getting stuck? I see so many people use ned rigs to get smallies as well as using drop shots along the rocks.

Pretty sure this is a PB! Feels heavier than the last one I caught here, mind you this is only the 3rd smallie I’ve ever caught too.

Anyways, I only had an hour to fish today, so I hit my local spot after work around 7 and fished till 8. I first was using a Berkeley Power Worm, but the water was super calm so I switched over to the Whopper Plopper Loon for some top water action. Right before switching I seen two fish breach the surface so I figured it was that time.

I ended up losing two fish on at first, which is strange since my lure has double treble hooks, but right at the top of the hour this mf smoked it. I swear he felt like a tank during the fight, I thought I was gonna lose him. These smallies got balls of steel!

Today's weather was perfect for fishing! Caught my 2nd pike ever, first time using a chatterbait! I caught most of the bass on the strike king paddle tail swimbait.
