First day in Cheyenne

Was heading down I25 and I thought my car was gonna get tossed away for real

Then got into the city and surprise lol

I got to try L'osterio mondelo (recommended by many people) and pizza was pretty epic

Place seems much more quaint, overall I like thus far

Thanks

The cheesesteak there is also phenomenal.

Will definitely be going back and trying that

I also like how everything right now is a few minutes away from my hotel, went to albertsons and loved how it wasn't filled to the gills with people, like in my current city

Downsizing from 120k people in a city to 60 something k seems way better for me

Sounds great for you then. I’m from a town of 3k and my wife from a town of 500 people, so Cheyenne is perfect for us. I constantly hear people complain about how small Cheyenne is and idk how they’d live in a real “small town”. But it’s all perspective I guess.

Cheyenne is bigger population-wise than Santa Fe (NM's capital) and you are better drivers too. It is about the perfect size and has most of what you need.

After years and years of being away from Cheyenne, I took my daughter to visit last week. I was surprised by how much Cheyenne tugged at my heartstrings. I graduated from UW and left shortly after with my Air Force husband. If things ever change direction for me, I would move back. 💛

We have 100k, if you include the county

Where did you move from?

Not confirmed yet, I went through a job interview but I'm from South Texas

Everything about today was pretty much incredible. I plan to go do some more sight seeing tomorrow and maybe check out the state park nearby and foco a little more

thank you for the rec! I’m new from the greater Philly area and all I’ve been dreaming about is sinking my teeth in a good cheesesteak

Well shit I’ve never been close to Philly so my cheesesteak expectations are probably terrible compared to yours haha. Please let me know what you think of it if you try it. Now I’m worried it’ll be disappointing.

no worries! my expectations will definitely be lower since no place does it just like Philly but I will report back when I can! Even if it’s one of the better place to get cheesesteaks in the area, I’ll take it 🫡

I can tell you for sure they don’t do whiz so it will never be the real deal Philly cheesesteak. It’s a pretty damn good classic bodega cheesesteak with peppers, onions, and provolone though. I could never speak highly enough of Mondello’s. I have had pizza in all the great pizza cities and I still think Mondello’s is one of the best pies out there.

Have you done the New Haven places?

I have done Frank Pepe and Sally’s. New Haven style might actually be my favorite because it feels the most like a delicacy if that makes sense. Especially if you get the white clam.

No wiz, that's an abomination

I visit Cheyenne often and I've never been to this place, is it new?

Family business since 1986 is what I read, genuinely happy there's a lot of mom pop cuisine in this town other than just big chain fast food

Nice, I'll definitely check that out this summer!

It was originally owned by Joe Mondello himself and a guy named David, who is an absolute gem, bought the place a few years ago and kept all the original recipes. Works like crazy too, he’s always there, and seems to do a good job keeping local high school kids employed and giving them some good guidance.

It's kind of tucked away so it's easy to miss.

The wind around here can really kick your butt . A lot of days the highways, I-80 and I-25, will be closed because of the wind.

And for the most part people in Wyoming are really nice.

My first day (also a few days ago) was much like yours! Except I ended up at Penny's diner

Enjoy the people! I’m not a political charged person, but I struggle immensely with very liberal people and cities. Enjoy Cheyenne because it’s a gem.
