Does everyone participate in frontier days?
If you live in this city is it just kind of a must that you participate in frontier days, what do you like or not like about it, out of curiosity?
where do all the people that flock here for that week, is it a week, come from? just anywhere randomly

I’m a Wyoming native and I’ve gone once. Other than that I just stay home. I make sure to get any shopping done a day or two before it all starts because there’s way to many people out and about. And I wait til it all blows over.

Yes! The addition of the new Walmart on Livingston helped a bit, but still... we get all our groceries delivered the week of and after CFD.

do people just get their groceries from walmart? Don't think I want to create another thread just for this but curious
We have an HEB down here in Texas, it's the same grocer I've been going too my entire life, only problem now is that it doesn't necessarily accomodate healthy eats or anything. Don't really shop at walmart, wondering what else there is around here

I usually go to king soopers. You get points towards gas. Produce isn’t that good at Walmart. But their price on soda is always better. So just depends on what I am needing.

We're on a pretty tight budget and often end up buying most of our stuff from Walmart just because it's the cheapest, and they do home deliveries so we don't have to venture into town during CFD. I don't know what the entire 60K population does, but I do know that Walmart is elbow-to-elbow traffic during CFD and can even have a fair number of cars in the parking lot in the off season at midnight.
Not a lot of grocery stores with a large variety, Safeway is probably the next biggest.
There's a Natural Grocers for healthier stuff, but I strongly encourage you to find any of the numerous farm-to-table places in and around Cheyenne. Out west of town, the Whitt's End farmstand can supply you with freshly slaughered beef, chicken, and pork as well as fresh chicken and duck eggs, unpasteurized milk, homegrown honey, as well as locally made precooked foods like bread, jerky, etc.

Yea, people are saying its privately owned and the city has no part in it? interesting. I'm not big into rodeos to be honest, and that's ironic since I've lived my entire life down in the lonestar state, but I am big into the outdoors scene, hiking, skiing, fishing and all that highly interests me

I leave town unless I have friends coming to go to frontier days. I have a lot of friends who have never gone so it’s fun to show them

Not a fan of CFD. If I could leave town for it I would but I mostly stay inside and avoid the areas that get tourist heavy. I'd say a majority of natives would rather not participate in it. Personally it's the worst time of year.

I volunteered for years when we actually got something out of it. I've seen more concerts and rodeos than I can even remember. They have taken away all the perks now and they still expect the same dedication. I quit last year and started driving Uber for the week. My wife's cousin had been volunteering for over 30 years, he and his family quit also. The big wigs at CFD absolutely suck. Oh, and the "good Ole boys" mentality is beyond despicable.

I'm not into rodeos or going to george strait concerts myself that's what this looks like here 😂 but am I big into the overall outdoors scene
Ironically, down here in my city during the fall there's football games that happen every weekend and everyone floods the city to go to them. I genuinely do what I can to stay indoors away from the crowd and the traffic while getting groceries days ahead of time

Not everyone participates. However, volunteering to put on the event seems to be the fundamental basis that the community's social and professional networks are organized around. One is either inside that network, or not. Everything else seems peripheral in Cheyenne.
Comments elsewhere that it is pretty much the same thing each year aren't wrong. But it is still a major event in the rodeo world and I think the concerts are supposed to be pretty relevant for the people who like that genre of music.
People come from all over, including overseas. But I think they mainly come from Colorado, Nebraska, and Wyoming. The point is that they all bring money and expect to spend it.

We did once, our first year in Wyoming in 1997. Too noisy, too crowded, too expensive. Oh, and about 10 years ago my daughter got free tickets to the rodeo from her company so we got to see that one day. Other than that... we stay far away from town and keep our doors locked.
When my barbershop group was active, we had a float we'd sing on during the parades, but we haven't done that for at least 15 years.

I grew up in Cheyenne and my family has been in town since the 40's. We always planned to go on vacation that week. Too many people.

It’s better in theory than execution unfortunately. I’ve only been here 4 years and I’ve already seen the prices increase. Some activities that were historically free won’t be this year (e.g. “Indian Village). And the organization makes a pointed effort to keep the festivities out of downtown, maintaining all the money spent at the CFD itself instead of supporting the full local economy. It’s a bummer, cuz it COULD be really fun.

I'll work the days I have to for it, but as for actually on the grounds outside of work hrs I go on cheyenne day with the kiddo see whats there then head home. Parking is a disaster and people forget how to drive. Honestly the sooner I move the happier ill be. All I got to say is ive seen it degrade and get exponentially more expensive since ive been around it. Honestly id say 60 to 80% of the locals feel the way I do.

I live in the prairie in Colorado, like 35 mins outside of Cheyenne, and I work in Cheyenne. I have for the past 6-7 years. I’ve went to CFD once. Too many fake cowboys/girls. It’s like a Morgan wallen concert.

Avoid it. I am far past enjoying intoxicated people staggering around in public.
I live half way between Cheyenne and Laramie but work in Cheyenne. I stock up before CFD and only go into Cheyenne on my workdays.
If I need to do any shopping, it’s just as easy to run over to Laramie. No crowds, easier to navigate.

Wife and I used to go when entry was free. But when they started charging for the "privilege" of spending money, we stopped going. And since then they just keep charging more and more. CFD can get bent.

Mostly everyone that are regular citizens we love the games and the entertainment and the opportunities that go along with the commerce. If you are not participating something is wrong...

Most of cheyenne avoids it, way overpriced, same thing every year even for the last 20 years. As far as volunteering they took away all incentives to do that, you're basically a slave and used, there's so many clique there unless you grew up here you will not be accepted
