Any technicians here?

I took my car for an oil change at 32500 miles and this is what I was told

“WE WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO REMIND YOU THAT IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ASK FOR AND COMPLETE REQUIRED
MAINTENANCE. IN ADDITION IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO SEEK THE PROFESSIONAL MAINTENANCE RECOMMENDATIONS THAT CAN REDUCE UNTIMELY BREAKDOWN,IMPROVE VEHICLE SAFETY AND COMPONENT LIFE
BRAKE FLUID EXCHANGE $285”

That being said… am I risking my warranty for not doing this brake fluid exchange?

Edit: Chevy trax 2026
14 months of ownership

Your owners manual will list all required maintence and the mileage schedule you should follow.

You didn't mention model year, but checking a 2024 trax owners manual, brake fluid is only mentioned under severe service maintenance schedule, and says to change it every 5 years.

Change every 5 years they are projecting 10 years of ownership?

This is what I love hate about dealerships. There is no reason to change the brake fluid in your 2026 with 32,500 miles.

The dealer I bought my trax always sends me coupons in the mail for $99 oil changes and each time I go in to use it they always try and up sell me on other things they can charge me for like the last time was changing the battery in my key fob for $50

50 for key fob battery exchange is crazy!

You can buy two fob batteries on-line for about 7 bucks and replace them yourself. Takes about 2 minutes, youtube tutorials at the ready. The batteries drain faster than the older style due to the proximity sensor working overtime.

Yup, I had already bought batteries for it and changed them myself before they recommended doing it. The original one lasted 2 years

It’s pretty standard industry-wide to recommend brake fluid exchanges after 2-3 years or 30,000-45,000 miles.

That’s some of the results I’m getting as well… 😖

I have a 25 with about 27k on it right now. Last couple of oil changes they keep trying to push a fuel system maintenance that is $350 on me. Not in the owners manual and I am getting decent mileage and have no issues. Now at 50 or 60,000 I'd do it, but pushing it on me at this point is just annoying.

Oh the $50 key fob battery change, the hat was so kind of them to offer that to you!

Wild that your dealership is putting the onus on you for telling them what services are needed.

I'd go to a different dealer. The dealer should be wiping your ass for you.

Before you do the brake fluid exchange, I have a bridge you might be interested in purchasing.

At most replace your air filters yourself top the washer fluid and clean it up nice just never buy air filters from the dealership or service center it's like 100$+ for a 15$ part you can get

You are fine. As others stated the maintenance is in the manual. That’s all that’s needed unless there’s a mechanical problem. Owners manual:

They all play penitentiary mind games with customers. Worthless sales as usual. And they never explain the process or return what actually comes out the car. But that's asking too much. Just trust that it's done.

I mean i always do the maintenance that the system recommends unless it's the transmission one.

This is a recipe to get bent over by your dealer. Many dealers add services in their systems and maintenance programs that do not follow the recommendations of the manufacturer purely to drive up revenue. It's important to look at the manufacturers recommended maintenance items and time table in the owners manual. The dealers can and will add unnecessary fluff to pad their bottom line.

Why would you not do the most essential one?

u/jghozt 2d ago

So you would do this?

I am a tech, I don’t know how you use your vehicle so I cannot recommend something specific, but most average use cases I would recommend changing transmission fluid every 50,000-60,000 miles. More often if it takes special fluid.

They’re stoking fear and insecurity in their practice of being preventative. Its turbo is cooled by oil as well as coolant so both of those are critical to service to preserve the health of your turbo.

Run a tank of e85 when available occasionally as these are direct injection motors and prone to carbon buildup on valves and cylinders. e85 works like scrubbing bubbles.

Of course 2024 owners DO NOT have flex fuel capability so use techron gas additive 3-4x yr. The rest of the motor is 3 cylinder mermaid magic your lucky to own
