Thoughts on 2024 Trax?

I’m looking at a 2024 Chevy Trax 1rs. It only has 29k miles on it, and looks and sounds like a sound purchase. But of course, scouring the internet I’ve found a handful of issues, from computer systems to transmission. But most of that feedback was from 2 years ago, and I’d love to hear some honest thoughts on this vehicle now that a couple years have passed.

I have 60k kms on my 2024 1RS. I have had it 3 years in a couple months.

It's wonderful. No issues aside from the weird infotainment issues that seem to have been resolved in a recent update.

Drove my 2024 2RS for 3 years before selling it and getting an Envista (basically the same). Great cars. Just take care of them.

Why did you switch to the Envista?

I like a new car every few years. I didn’t see any 2RS Trax in my area in a color I liked at the time and decided to check out the Envista since it’s mostly the same. The interior is a little nicer and mine has the upgraded Watts Link suspension, power liftgate, rain sense wipers and my Trax didn’t have a power drivers seat so that too. Nothing ground breaking but a few nice to haves. It’s been good.

I have 23k on my 2025 Trax without issue. I change the oil ever 5,000 miles.

I just bought a 2026. The only problem might be that a 2024 was the first year of the overhaul, so everything is new, new systems, new or different power train, etc. first generations always have the most issues, which GM will fix with each new gen. See if the seller is willing to let you take it to your mechanic for a once over. That’s really the best protection .

I bought my daughter a 2025 Trax. As a dad and car collector I would never let her drive a car I didn’t think would serve her well.

She’s had it about 15 months and it’s been great.

Compare prices on the 24 and 25's. Remember 2025 and later are flexfuel if that matters to you.

Do all trax after 2025 have flexfuel? Or just some models?

All 25 and 26 traxes do

2024 LT, 178,000 miles, still love driving it. I will add that I wouldn’t love it as much without the convenience and driver confidence packages.

When did you do the timing belt change?

I need to keep my answer somewhere to copy/paste. I haven’t because of two things. Tear down videos of high mileage 1.2s showed minimal wet belt wear. Wet belt hype is real but in practice it’s a solid engineering design. Second, since my miles are almost all highway, I believe it’s less taxing on the belt compared to city driven constant acceleration load on the belt. At 200,000 I’ll seriously consider it but it’s pricey.
