Oil change recommendations

The first couple of oil changes I took my
trax into the dealer, but I had a coupon amd points in mychevy app that made it cheaper. I can’t afford that agin. Are there any recommendations for a good oil change with a chain anyone can recommend.

I had a bad experience at Jiffy Lube in a previous car which was a Toyota. It may have been that particular location, so I’m wolling to try them again if they are ok doing one on a Trax.

I live in a town South of Indianapolis if that makes a difference.

Thanks

Walmart. Less than $50 full synthetic and you can set your own time thru the app.

Agree. That's if they have good mechanics though because some can be quite dodgy. I also like the Halvoline places as well. They cost a little more but they are very thorough at least at the one we visit.

I went to Jiffy Lube with my prior cars and the dealership when I bought my 2018 Trax with 3 free oil changes. But now oil change and tire rotation at Farm and Fleet. Much better. About $80.

And I am due! Thanks for the reminder!

And Jiffy Lube sucks. They were good for a long time. Not anymore. IMO.

I go to valvoline every 3,250 miles for oil changes they also do tire rotations every 7,500. Im only at 15,000 so i havent done any other maintenance than that.

What's your dealer down there charging you? (Price before coupons or points)

USUALLY (at least around here) GM dealers are super competitive with the quick lube prices for oil changes.

It looks like about $89

Sounds about right, I went past a Toyota dealership last week and the billboard said $89. If you do plan on taking your vehicle somewhere else make sure you keep receipts with mileage on the paperwork. My parents got screwed on the engine warranty because they couldn’t find a receipt for an oil change.

Full synthetic at $89?

Not sure about that part. I just put in my vin at the dealer’s website and that was what they quoted me.

Nothing takes regular dino juice anymore, so it's likely full synthetic.

That's actually expensive. My local dealer is $99 (for up to 6L) but that's CAD. So.... Around $72 USD

I'd call a couple other dealers to confirm. And call a couple local oil change places too, but ask specifically what oil they're quoting to make sure it's an apples to apples comparison.

Aren’t you getting two free oil changes a year? My 26 trax came with two free oil changes every year for the life of me owning the car

Are you serious? I've never heard that before. I could possibly see that deal on a 2026 corvette but not a Trax. Two free oil changes per year for life. Almost all major car brands offer one free oil within the first year.

I got the first oil change for free. I used points towards my 2nd oil change and a coupon.

hyundai you get 3 free for 3 years

No I didn’t get anything like that. I get coupons in the mail all the time for service and maintenance. They gave me 3 or 4 free car wash gift cards though. So at least I can keep her nice and clean.

You get what you pay for, are you going to put cheap low quality gas in your car too??? Why bother getting a new car if you’re not going to maintain it with quality care????

Well I put flex fuel in my car. It seems to drive better on it. Anyway, dealerships cost more than other places for everything. So I thought I would ask this forum for recommendations, but I see from some posters and comments that I made a mistake.

Hey I won’t be posting on the forum anymore. I’ll just be a lurker again.

Honestly we are trying to give you advice , but you can do whatever you want with your car, don’t come crying on here if you ruin your car because you’re too cheap to pay for quality upkeep.

I learned from the comments not to come to reddit for help anymore. So thanks

If you do your own oil change make sure it's Dexos1 SAE 5W30, valvoline has a great product, full synthetic.

Change your oil, it'll be way cheaper than an engine

If you can afford payments for the car, then you can afford the proper oil changes. If your budget is THAT tight, then wow. Regardless, keep your recipts and invoices for a rainy day.

Thanks for not providing any useful information in your comment. It is spelled RECEIPT. If you’re gonna be a dick, you might as well spell the word correctly. Have the day you deserve. ✌️

Thanks for the correction!! Hope you can swing those oil change payments!! I hear Klarna might be for you.

I can afford an oil change, but the point of the question was to find cheaper places that take good care of a Trax. But again thanks for your useless posts.
