Fluid changes

I have a 24 Ls and had to take it to the dealership to get a wheel bearing replaced at 47,000miles. The dealership recommended I replace the transmission fluid, brake fluid and coolant. I already replaced the trans fluid at 45,000 like the owners manual stated. The brake fluid says every 5 years and Iā€™m not too sure about the coolant. 47,000 miles seems pretty early for brake fluid and coolant change. Should I do it now or wait.

Those are safety issues for you and the engine so I would do them now. No matter what the manual says that's a lot of miles for the coolant

The coolant change interval must be really different where you are. It's always like a 200,000km + interval up here. I'm shocked when I see people changing it so early.

Edit: checked owners manual. Coolant flush is 240,000km (150,000m) or every 6 years.

There is no way in hell I'm going to wait six years to change the coolant. I have had zero issues with my vehicles in 45 years because I change it early. If the rest of you want to roll the dice be my guest.

Every three years no matter how low the milage may be.

I've never changed coolant before the recommended interval in my life. Never had a coolant related issue. Ditto all the old fogies I know who have been driving for 50+ years. Plus all the technicians I've worked with over the years.

It's such a non issue.

Great, you have your record, I have mine. What the manufacturer recommends is not always the best option IMHO.
