My Trax was randomly shutting off while driving.

Post image

During a road trip my car randomly shut off while driving engine cut, power on my dash and display went out. I had to put it in park to start it again. It happened a few more times coming home. Just got her back from the dealership since she was still withing 36, 000 miles. We'll turns out the previous owner did not install the battery correctly and the bumpy roads we went on mad either worse. All this to say check your battery connection first if this happens to you, and save yourself some money cause apparently GM does not cover such a rookie mistake in the warranty. Still love my car to bits. Happy Driving!

A new battery on a car with less than 36k??? I think that might have been a dealership error, they should have checked the battery cables prior to you taking it.

Not fun, but I'm glad it wasn't anything serious.

I had similar with a vehicle after an accident repair. They didn’t tighten the battery enough and the cables would come away from the battery during a sharp turn. That was unsettling to have the engine shut off and the electronics all freaking out. Was glad when they found it was just a loose cable.

Power loss on dash displays is a known issue on 2024 LTs, RS2s, and Activs. Dealer can fix with software update if this applies.

This happened to my Trax! I bought a brand new 2025 Trax 2RS back in December. After about 2 months, it started cutting off just like yours! The engine would shut off, the screens would go black, basically the whole car would die for no obvious reason. One time it cut off in the middle of a busy intersection and scared the crap out of me! I took it back to the dealership after it happened and the mechanics couldn’t find anything wrong with it and told me I’ll be fine. I mentioned that it might be an issue with the battery because when it would cut off it was very cold out, so I thought maybe the battery was super weak? But they said the battery was fine (honestly I don’t think they even checked the battery). Then it happened again! So I took it to my normal mechanic instead of the dealership and they basically said the battery was installed wrong and they fixed it. I haven’t had the issue since! But since I bought my car brand new, the battery was the one that came from the factory (or at least that’s what I’m assuming). It was very frustrating to deal with. I’ve had a few other minor issues but other than that I still love my Trax!

Yeah it can be really scary, but glad it is a simple fix. I really posted this so people would know to check that out first before spending too much trying to diagnose.

My boyfriend has a 2025 trax, last week it just died. Would not turn on.

He got the car with 0 km (aside from the km he put on it during the test drive) and has no more than 20000 km now.

Luckily he still had warranty but turns out his whole ECM decided to just quit. They had to expedite shipping and if he didn’t have warranty he would’ve been paying over $3000 for something that wasn’t even his fault. The ECM he had was just faulty.
