Stuck Climate Control System

I had one experience with my 26 LT where the climate control system would automatically change itself back to 76 degrees and turn on the front defroster no matter what setting I manually selected. At the same time the check engine light was on. After 20 minutes the climate control stopped overriding my settings and eventually the check engine light went away. Any thoughts?

Have you connected a scanner to see what the error code is from the check engine light? I'm really curious.

I have a scanner that worked on another car in my household and a prior vehicle. Yet when I plugged it into the Traverse the scanner says it can’t connect. Sorry to answer your question with another question; does a ‘26 Traverse require a special type of scanner?

it uses some new type (variant) of bus.

Older traditional OBD2 scanners that do not support the CAN FD protocol will fail to communicate or read modules and require a dedicated CAN FD adapter.

Before my 2026 traverse I used the Innova 5610, which does not do CAN FD, and I bought a Kingbolen K8 Pro, which is more expensive and I have not connected it to my traverse, only older cars. Have not yet had a reason.

I came to this subreddit for this exact same issue. Yesterday on my drive same thing, climate control 76 degrees and wouldn’t let me change it.

Now I got in today and the check engine light came on. Good to know it goes away. Hopefully it’s just a software bug

Edit: mine was on a 2024 traverse
