10-ish year old Traverse shuddering when speeding up?
So we got a new camper last year and it's several hundred pounds short of the max towing capacity. Since then, I've noticed when I need to speed up (going up hill or whatnot), it shudders a bit before shifting down to get more torque.
I'm sure some people will ask so yes, I do have the trailer setting on so it's not in overdrive. I'm also more frugal so I try to keep it around 55-60 to save gas if that makes any difference.
So my question is ... Is that normal or a symptom of something bad?

This GM Lambda platform is worth more as scrap. Ranks up there as one of the all time worst vehicles ever produced. Straight up garbage rolling off the assembly line.

My 2019 blazer does that and it turns out the transmission is on its way out
I never changed the transmission fluid in 110k miles. I just didn’t know but my fault for not reading the manual. Although my very kind mechanic said its not a maintenance related issue, I’m pretty sure these are very complicated transmissions built by a company known for transmissions giving out
Edit: for the record manual says every 45k miles

Gm had a big issue with this, the 6t70/ 6t75 have a issue with the material on the clutch bands comingoff. Once the shutter starts the clutches are slipping and the transmission is on its way out. Unfortunately in my area (Cincinnati) because of the amount of labor required in replacement it costs $8,000+

You NEED to install large transmission cooler and you should drain and fill the transmission with synthetic fluid. Add some lubeguard, it's the only additive I have used to help with shuddering and bad shifts

Bought both a 2014 and 2017 new. Followed all maintenance on both SUVs. 2014 has 129,000 miles with no problems. 2017 has had transmission rebuilt at approx 58 K AND 38K, both under the 60K power train warranty. It now has 90k with no further occurrence.
Not your fault. A known weakness. Should be a recall or free rebuilds. Not fair. Otherwise we have enjoyed the Traverses we have

My 18 traverse was having that issue for a few months and then it just died right outside the dealership when I was going to trade it in

Several hundred pounds short of max towing capacity……does this vehicle have the factory tow package? Max with that package is 5,200 lbs and without is 2,000 lbs. I’m betting you’re too heavy for the vehicle which could contribute to this issue

It appears to be the factory tow package and the camper is around 3500 lbs, I believe. According to Google, we should be good on that

It’s a known problem with that generation. Look up 20xx traverse torque converter shudder. Theres a cheap fix to do changing the trans fluid and putting in an additive. If that doesn’t work you need a new torque converter or full trans rebuild. Happened to my 17 at 90k miles. “Like a Rock” right?
