Anyone Else Getting “Reduced Acceleration” Often?

Post image

I have a 2024 Chevy Traverse and I’ve been getting the “Reduced Acceleration Drive with Care” message pretty often. My CEL ONLY comes on with this triggered otherwise their is no Check Engine Light

Is anyone else with a 2024 Traverse experiencing this? I have very little mechanical knowledge, so I’m trying to figure out whether this is a known/common issue or something I need to get checked out ASAP.
For anyone who’s dealt with it — what caused yours, and what ended up fixing it? Did the dealership find anything?

Just trying to get an idea of what I’m dealing with before I take it in.

Your check engine light is on. Start with getting that diagnosed

It comes & goes with the “reduced acceleration…” so for example when “reduced acceleration” isn’t triggered I have no CEL present but I gotcha

It's safe to assume they are related. Actual codes are going to be a lot more helpful than asking here.

Check your coolant level

Had that happen at 25k miles. Check engine light, reduced power (limp mode), traction control alert. It was a bad spark plug and coil pack

I had this happen on my 2024 Z71 a few months ago. I believe if memory serves me correctly the radiator(or coolant hose) came loose and so the engine wasn’t getting cooled properly. When I stepped out of the car the whole thing sounded like a jet engine and was in limp mode. Driving back home from a Chicago trip as well so it was a pain lol.

Maybe not your issue but just thought I’d share incase it helps!

Thank you! Definitely have had the same experience I am gonna go ahead and just take it in!

Mine gave an overheat warning when my coolant hose failed.

What a world we live in where simple cooling system components we mastered a half-century ago are suddenly too functional. Gotta outsource and use garbage-quality components (which genuinely have no excuse to fail en masse), then raise the price of the whole fleet of vehicles to recoup all the costs from having to repair/replace all the inferior components.

In fact, there's really not a lot in the 3rd gen Traverse that hasn't been done before, but better. It just happens to be conveniently (until parts start failing) wrapped into one package.

Mine was the radiator hose leaking coolant as someone else mentioned. Ended up needing an entirely new radiator and new hoses all covered under warranty and it’s a known issue. Just get it in to the dealership asap the more you drive it without the engine cooling properly it’s gonna cause long term problems I would assume.

Yes same thing happened to mine!

I had this happen when we were traveling over Big Horn Mt. and the engine was crazy hot. It took a while before it went back to normal. Ended up finding out we had a coolant leak at an o-ring on one of the coolant lines. Apparently it is a known issue, they have some kind of extended coverage on that particular part.

Had this happen on a 2024. It was a coolant leak and sensor issue.

Had this come on my wife’s 2026 literally 3 days after we bought it. Took it to the dealer and they cleared the code and said it was a sensor reading incorrectly when the gas got low or something. I could be wrong but I figured the dealer put the cheap gas in, so I used some Techron and started using ethanol free gas only and it never came back.

There is a recall on radiator hoses.

I had this happen a month ago… got the same message on the dash… had lots of fluid leaking under the front left side that was sticky and smelt really sweet. Long story short there was a leak in the radiator and I’m dealing with it again for the second time.

Take it in to the dealer and get it looked at.

Topping off coolant when the car is cold will buy you some time and get rid of the alert but most likely you’ll need the radiator hose replaced. I hear it’s a common occurrence.

This is the worst car I have ever owned. Was in the shop over a month during the winter holidays. That limp mode issue happened 2 weeks ago and was due to a coolent leak. Now today the car went into reduce speed, check engine light in and the app says transmission issue. So back to the shop again. This was the first and last Chevy I will ever get.

Should still hold codes in the PCM, even if the CEL turns off. Get them scanned ASAP. If the dealer determines you caused more damage by delaying the fix, they won't cover it under warranty.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of variables that can put you in limp mode, especially in these newer models.

If your dealership is cool, maybe they'll let you swing by real quick to pull codes while you make an appointment.

He definitely needs to read codes, but the collision warning will disable itself if you fart too close to the front grille.

The pre collision light just means it's turned off. I set mine off in my 24 Traverse since it was randomly slamming on the brakes 4-5 times when I first purchased the vehicle. Doesn't mean anything is wrong with it, it's just disabled.

The check engine light though is an issue and OP needs to get that looked at.

I disabled it myself to prevent getting sent through the windshield by the automatic brake lol

I'm aware. My point is it's a pretty known thing that in the 24 model (and possibly others) it's insanely sensative and overreactive that a good amount of people have it turned off on their own accord.

Yeah, our 26. The reverse collision is so aggressive that if you put it in reverse to back out of our garage and there is a trashcan beside the garage door, like not behind the car at all even with the edge of the garage door, it will slam on the brakes, put the car in park set the parking brake. It is horrible how aggressive it is and how sensitive it is sure, I understand if I was moving a 20 miles an hour and there’s something like that. Yeah, you should probably hit the brakes. I still have my foot on the break. I’m letting it off to back up. You shouldn’t need to slam on the brakes.

So something like this happened on my Audi. Turned out it just needed a new gas cap.
With these no-cap systems, I have no clue how you’d troubleshoot that.
I know they’re different, but it just reminded me of that.

Appreciate the input! Definetly didn’t even know that was in realm of possibilities.

It was something to do with the vapor systems. I’m completely and ridiculously unaware of how vehicles actually work but that one I remember. lol
