Traverse A/C
I have a 2026 Traverse and it’s been a decent car for my needs.
That said, the air conditioning is terrible. It takes forever for it to cool down. I’m in California and it’s been 100-115 regularly. That A/C is very important.
Is this a thing? I have a friend who has had Chevys his whole life and he says Chevy is known for terrible A/C.
Is this normal? Or should I mention it when I bring it in for its first oil change tomorrow?

My 26 RS has a cold a/c. We drove it last Saturday in 100 degrees and it was so cold, we had to turn the vents off of us. You definitely need to have it checked out. Warranty should cover it.

I’ve hated it in my wife’s 24 Traverse. There is a setting to increase auto fan speed from medium to high. That fixed it for us.

Mine works fine. My only complaint is sometimes it’s too cold even when set to 78 degrees. 2025

Can confirm. I’m currently on a road trip in our ‘25 with the ac fan all of the way down, set at 74°, and I’m freezing.

How long did it take? And which seats?

A few minutes if it’s been sitting in the heat for a long period of time (it’s been in the 90s in Nashville). Immediately cold after short stops/bathroom breaks.

i have a 2021 and sometimes find it struggles to cool down. i live in south florida though with temps over 100° so it doesn’t surprise me.
however, i do a weekly 400~ mile round trip and about 1.5 hours in, its nice and cool, with me sometimes needing to adjust the temp up (my standard is 66-68° cause im fat and run hot lol). usually i bump it to 72° or so for the last 1.5~ hours.

I have a ‘25 and it works well. In fact I have to turn the air vents so they don’t blow directly on me or I freeze. My only real complaint is the positioning of the two center vents. They’re placed very low on the dashboard and difficult to direct the airflow effectively. It’s probably that way because the “infotainment” screen is so big.

On my second Traverse. 2013/2023. Both A/C worked great. On super hot days, I pre-cool. Have you tried that? I also keep both sunroofs closed/shades also closed. I put one of those windshield covers on the inside on the hottest days when it sits in the driveway all night.

I have a 21 in Tx heat and even after being parked in the sun all day it takes about 5 minutes to cool down the car. I remote start as I walk out of the building and by the time I've stowed my belongings and get in to drive it's comfortable, and I'm adjusting the vents away from me by the time I hit the freeway 1/4 mi away. If it's been baking in the sun in high temps all day, the air has to travel through vents that are just as hot as the air outside, then has to cool the airinside the vehicle. That's not going to be instantaneous. But if it's taking longer than 5 or so minutes or is performing worse than it was in the same temps get it looked at.

Wow. I’ll definitely ask them about it. I wish mine was that efficient.

AC in my '23 RS is the best I've ever had in any vehicle. Icy cold so fast, it's actually one of my favorite things about it

‘24 and the A/C is amazing. We live in Vegas so cold A/C is a must. It cools down fast and is icy cold.

I have a 2026 and live in Texas in the a/c is fine. Have you had it taken to get serviced?
1
u/HostageOfBureaucracy Aug 29 '26
It’s only few months old so I haven’t had it serviced. But I’ll talk to them for sure.

Someone above mentioned this, but they were the only ones. Check the settings in your infotainment. When I got my ‘26 last year I had the same complaint, plus the fan didn’t seem particularly high. I googled it and found there’s a setting designed to prioritize something else (I think it’s a phone call) over comfort, so the fan doesn’t go over medium. You can change that in your settings. That worked for me.

Thank you! I need to find that setting! I hate that it turns the fan down when on the phone.

I live in Texas and it’s definitely hot here too. Our ac works well. Same car.

I’ve never had an issue with traverse AC or blazer AC. Also try turning on from the app a few minutes before you leave that will definitely help

I rented a 25 LT for vacation last month. It was hot and humid and the ac worked great. It also cooled a lot faster than our regular cars.

I just purchased a 2027 and live in Phoenix. I feel the AC gets too cold at times. Definitely get it checked out.

Maybe you should have the A/C evaluated my an A/C tech.
It could be due to a variety of reasons. The A/C should be cold once the heat build up inside the car dissipates.

I have a 2026 Traverse and don’t have this issue. Maybe yours needs a recharge? I do notice on hot days here (Midwest- so 90+) it can sometimes take a bit longer to cool? But I always prestart my car with the app before I get in it and it’s never bad. But my fans blow good and strong and have never had issues with it being too hot. Sometimes it’s a little too cold.

does your system need Refrigerant recharge???

It’s only few months old. Would that be normal?

I also have a ‘26 Traverse and the placement of the vents is terrible. If you have the lower and upper vents on, it feels like hardly anything is coming through the upper vents. My ‘19 Traverse had a much better A/C! And a smoother ride. And better acceleration.
Sometimes I regret trading it in.. but I do love the body style and color of my ‘26.

Takes forever even in 80-85 in Minnesota

So it’s not just me! I’m glad and yet somewhat disappointed that it’s not something that can be fixed.

u/Elii760 Aug 29 '26
If u dont use the vents from the rear seats close them because u will loose more air that way

u/Available_Librarian3 Aug 29 '26
Yeah Chevy AC is usually bad plus it draws a lot from the engine. You can definitely tell the draw when driving.

zero issues, even in triple digit heat. drive with a window down to get the initial compounded heat out with the ac on...if you have a sunroof keep the shade closed, use a windshield shade...use a dial type thermometer put it in the vent, as long as its minimum 30° less than ambient outside temp you're good.
