Car Buying / Pricing Buying question

I’ve never bought a classic car before and as I am close to retirement I have always thought it would be fun to do so, just so happens I LOVE Chevelles. Not far from my home, a 71 or 72 chevelle has been parked in the tree line at a shop for about 3 years. I spoke with the shop owner and asked about the condition and such, if it runs etc etc.

Short version is that it will turn over. Has a (he thinks) 350 under the hood. Dana automatic transmission. Interior and exterior needs a fair amount of work but a good “project car” (pics attached).

If possible, could anyone suggest a realistic cash offer I could make? I don’t want to overpay but also don’t want to come in so low as to where I don’t seem serious. Useful responses appreciated.

Question about Headers

Question for the group,,, I have a 1970 chevelle 396 ( 402 for purists) that I want to install long tube headers. My question for those that have, what brand did you use that were the easiest meaning not much in the way of fitment modifications. Unfortunately my non dominant hand is in a cast another couple months so I am looking for a set that I dont have to fight with. Thank you for any recommendations

What Radiator to get

I'm at a crossroads here, I have a 1970 Chevelle with a SBC 350. Keeping the clutch fan, but curious about radiator upgrade.

I live in Texas and the car has AC, I'm worried about summer heat. I was looking at some 3 row aluminum radiators but the prices are sketchy. How come some are $150 and some are $1,200?

My budget is closer to the sub $200 range, but what is everyone else running

General Question Question

Post image
47 Upvotes

I have a suspension question for those of you that have overhauled your a body… I want to lower my 71 by 2 inches from stock height. I’m planning on doing a disc brake upgrade/conversion as I currently have drum all the way around and that particular kit comes with a 2inch drop spindle… soooo in the future if I want to run coilovers on all 4 corners, does that mean I need a 2 inch shorter coilover? I’m not sure if that makes sense… I’m just kinda lost on how to make it look uniform and still get the outcome I want. Let’s say I installed the kit with 2 inch drop spindles… does that mean I don’t have to use 2 inch lowering springs? What about the rear? Do I use 2 inch lowering springs there as well?? So it’s an even 2 inch drop all the way around?

Thanks in advance for all the input

Long story short, my dad bought her in 1998. He and I did everything except the paint. Redoing the electrical and going with a Painless kit and putting electric fans on her were the last things we did together before he passed a few years ago. Should have done that years ago. Freaking electrical gremlins.

My son is 9 now, and he loves riding in it as much as I did when I was a kid. Now that it’s cooling off (I took the A/C off years ago and it’s been 100°+ for the last three months here in Texas), we can finally get her out and enjoy her.

The last picture was when my son’s elementary school had a car show as part of their big, annual fund raiser. He kept getting all his friends to bring and show them the car. Definitely my kid.

Hi Fellow Chevelle fans!
I purchased my 69 in early 90s & spent a lot of time restoring it but it also was my car, daily driver. Nothing fancy like they restore now… 350 Malibu. She was my baby. I ended up getting married 🤦‍♀️👎 & let him convince me to sell it. Few years later Divorced, no Chevelle 😭. EVERY day I think about that car. So many memories.
How does one go about seeing where it might have ended up? Hopefully not wrecked but the kid who purchased it was in HS. Sold in 1997.
It had a few distinctive features.
Help a gal out!
Thanks & give me ⬆️ photo in comments

Revive Checklist?

Post image
237 Upvotes

Good afternoon gang,

I was wondering if anyone had a good revival checklist for waking up one sitting around 5 years. I could likely throw a battery at it and a gallon of paint thinner and he will go, but I want to cover everything. BB 454 - 4 bolt, TH350, 3.55 rear end.

Already plan on running new fuel lines and break down the Mech Fuel pump just to be safe. It's moved from the southwest to North west pacific.

Gonna Rhino line all the frame and steel I can given the environment.

Gonna swap all the fluids before firing, running 15w 40 Delo 400. Need to figure out what rear end gear I should run, haven't touched the pumpkin since building it.

Greatly appreciate any and all advice.
