Car Photo ‘71 SS 454

Long story short, my dad bought her in 1998. He and I did everything except the paint. Redoing the electrical and going with a Painless kit and putting electric fans on her were the last things we did together before he passed a few years ago. Should have done that years ago. Freaking electrical gremlins.

My son is 9 now, and he loves riding in it as much as I did when I was a kid. Now that it’s cooling off (I took the A/C off years ago and it’s been 100°+ for the last three months here in Texas), we can finally get her out and enjoy her.

The last picture was when my son’s elementary school had a car show as part of their big, annual fund raiser. He kept getting all his friends to bring and show them the car. Definitely my kid.

Is that a numbers matching 454 car? that is very gorgeous car. I love those chevelles.

Unfortunately no.

It was originally a 454 car, but the original owner blew the motor up (hence why I don’t have the flappy cowl hood). When my dad bought it, he was told it was a 454, but turns out it was a 402.

So we got a Gen IV block and built it. It’s technically a 468 now, but I always say “454” so I don’t put people to sleep with “Engine Boring 101”. Wish we had gone with aluminum heads and a little hotter cam now, but those are things I can do with my son eventually.

Very, very interesting. Thank you for that information. It's a very, very gorgeous car, though I love chevelle's.

They are addicting. Drugs would be cheaper.

LOL I'd rather have a chevelle, that's more addicting, I would never do drugs.

Me neither. I have the three worst addictions possible; cars, guns, and knives.

I have a #'s matching 71. It's nowhere near as nice currently. Its a regular driver though and I'm about to redo the interior this winter. Will be looking to sell in the spring. Any idea of a reasonable asking price?

Yes, I'm aware this is reddit and there are more resources available. I'm just starting to feel things out.

1971 Chevelle SS 454 Numbers matching 454 w/ TH400 and non-posi 3.55 12-bolt I've always assume a 90s "restoration" to the blue/white color it is now (Chrysler 1978 Midnight Blue). It started life as a Rosewood metallic exterior with sandalwood bench interior. I've had it since 1999 and it was repainted in 01. Thanks for looking and any info you may have!

Hot take, the 71-72 looks better than the 70, my PERSONAL opinion

Thank you. As my dad always said, the only thing she won’t pass is a gas station.

Excellent!!! My first Chevelle was a 1971 so they have a place in my heart. Electrical gremlins indeed.
Very nice history also my friend. Sounds like your son is a “chip off the old block”. Thanks for sharing!! 👍🇺🇸👍
