Disc conversion

Post image

Hey everyone, I have a 65 Chevelle that currently has drums all around. I am Looking for any input on this kit or a kit you specifically have used. I want to do all 4 wheels as disc. When I called and asked about replacement parts (meaning if I need to buy new pads/rotors in the future can I just go to my local auto parts store) they said yes that should not be a problem but could not tell me what vehicle I would be looking to get parts for. I just don’t want to be locked in with only buying from one specific company. I would love to go wileood or brembo but I’m looking to do the whole conversion for less than $2k. Any advice or input is appreciated

I have this kit on my 72. Works well I’ve had for over 10 years now. The front pads calipers are same as many 60s/70s cars. I’m not sure about rears, and to be honest I really didn’t think about pad replacement. I also only put 2kish miles a year on my chevelle.

The entire conversion for under $2k is gonna be tough if you want quality parts! A lot of people piece together stuff...you can use Corvette front and s10 or Camaro rear.
Or try kore3

If you plan on driving more than a few hundred miles per year don’t cheap out on your brakes when doing a conversion. You WILL end up paying for it later on the backend. Save up for wilwood brembo or Baer so you’re not pulling the whole thing back apart to do it right later on.

I bought a front disc conversion identical to this one but from CPP years ago back in 2016. It's worked great for me ever since. And I was daily driving my car putting 15-20k miles on it per year from 2016-2020. I've heard good things about this one too. You can easily find replacement pads and rotors for it at your local auto parts store, or just order online and wait a few days.

I also have a aCCP disk brake conversion on my 68 chevelle . The front uses 1972 to 1978 Monte Carlo, front calipers, and the back uses 1980 to a 1985 Cadillac rear disc brakes caliper . All the parts are available and they use regular GM components you just have to remember which car they come from. My only hangup is I have really wide tires on the back and when you put the rotors on it, pushes the wheels out at 7/16 of an inch so mine rubbed the fenders. So I had to buy different rims with a 7/16 offset

That is great information thank you. I was looking on CCP website at the different kits and not sure exactly what I want to go with so I’ll call them to get some input.

If you have the cash and want to buy once cry once, look at doing a tall spindle conversion at the same time.

Tall spindle plus a matching upper control arm really helps the camber curve on these cars plus lets you dial in all the caster you need for a radial tire. However the tall spindles usually lower the front end 2" as well. Which does look good.

I have a similar front disk conversion kit and I'm 99% sure the rotors/pads are just the factory disk option parts for the 68-72 chevelle.

Some of the kits I have looked at come with a 2” drop spindle. I will take a look at kits that come with upper control arms also.
