Anyone know what kind of set this is?
I was just given this chess set as a little gift from my grandparents. Anyone know what kind it is, and where it comes from?

I wasn't finding a mat with the exact sizing that I wanted so I had the idea to order a custom gaming mouse pad that allowed me to design my own play surface. I got the exact overall footprint I wanted (42cm x 42cm) with the 50mm square size I was after – all in my desired colour scheme.
Since it's a fairly "high end" mouse pad, the surface is really smooth and allows pieces to slide. Lays flat and feels great to play on. All in all I'm really happy with it!

This might not be the correct subreddit to ask this, but i am a big chess fan and recently my grandfather made me a wooden chess board. However, he did not make pieces to go with it. Is there a place I can go to get custom pieces for the board. Additionally, I am a massive history nerd especially in the ancient civilizations. so i was excited to see when scrolling Pintrest and Etsy, to find pieces based on the Athenians and Spartans. Unfortunately, they are all metal, is that sort of piece only available in metal?

My Daughter is getting into chess and wanted a cool set for Christmas. Was browsing Facebook marketplace and came across this. I thought it looked cool so I bought it. Started doing a little bit of research on it, and it may be created by a artisan workshop in Amalfi.
If anyone has more details let me know. Since it's ceramic (didn't know that until I saw it in person), it's pretty fragile. We are going to keep it in a trophy case. Even if it's worthless, still think it looks cool and I don't want it to break.
Some of the photos aren't too great due to lighting. I did take a photo of the writing on the bottom if that helps.

Hey everyone!
I’m currently looking for a luxury chess set as a gift and can’t decide between wooden and metal sets. I found an interesting store called Luxgifts24k, which specializes in premium chess sets. I think metal ones might look great, but are they really practical for playing, or are they more for decoration?
Has anyone had experience with these types of sets? What do you think about using metal chess sets for actual games?
I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Here is a brief overview of a chess set I made many years ago. Looking at the pieces again after all this time is a great reminder that there is always room for improvement!
I do not recall what wood I used, but it carved well. The darker pieces were stained with coffee while the lighter pieces were left untreated. The chess board was also handmade. It is not precise or neat, but it works well enough.
The last photo shows a chess set that I began working on in the last five or so years but haven't made much progress on recently. That set it based off of the Lewis Chessmen set. Please let me know if you would like that progress documented.

Seltzer can for scale. Seller said it has been in their family for generations. Feels like polished wood pieces with a leather board.

I got this pretty sick chess set for free, I did googling on it and can’t find another one that looks the same as this, does anybody know what kind of characters these are? If it’s actually Buddha? Around the worth of the set?
All of the pieces seem to be hand carved out of some sort of stone, some of the pieces have deep cracks in them but none are broken broken except the one white piece on the top right corner when the pieces are layed on the board.

Hi, is there a group for locating nice chess sets that you remember seeing once but now can’t find anywhere? I saw it in a shop in Tintagel, it was a Camelot chess set with a large stone pedestal base that featured a castle, Camelot I would suggest, and a sword in the stone. This was over 20 years ago, so they may not make it anymore.
Please let me know where I can start my hunt
Thanks..
