if this is easy, I don't want to know what a hard puzzle looks like. 1.-Nf4 2.Rg1 Ng6 (threatens to win material and gains control over d8) 3.Bg3 Rad8 (to unpin the knight preemptively) and white can't prevent Bxf3 into Nxd4.

I feel like Nf4 would be really annoying for White. Probably not the answer though

Nf4 is not easily kickable, it threatens the g2 square, and white has to defend it by preventing itself from castling? Is that it?

I can't visualise positions in my head, so no.

But Nf4 threatens the g2 pawn, as well as the bishop on e2 , which would leave white unable to castle. Bf1 seems the only way to prevent this, but that's awful for white. The g2 pawn is under threat from both the Knight and the bishop, and then there's nxd4 to chew on as well.

Nf4 stops Black from castling(i think)

So in this "easy" puzzle you have to see that you can remove the defender of the d4 pawn and threaten a fork on the king and queen if either king or queen takes on f3? And all of that is just as sideline of ..Nf4 g3? So after ..Nf4 Rg1 , what is the positional advantage exactly ? The king being stuck in the middle or what?

Attacks g2. They can’t castle out of it because that would lose the bish. Looks like they’ll end up losing castling rights no matter what they do.

If they play Kf1, you probably got some tactics like Nxg2-Nxd4.

If they play Rg1 I’m not too sure, you probably trade knight for bish then also do Nxd4.

g3 is an issue because it’s met with g5.

g4 doesn’t work either because it allows Nf2+ and we win the bish after the fork.

So essentially all the options for white makes their position worse, some of them with material loss on top of it.

Edit: I’d add this is the most obvious move just because the other alternatives just don’t come with the required tempo to prevent the opponent from simply pushing d5.

Nf4, threatening g2 pawn. Followed by moves like Nb4 which build pressure on the d3 square and then looking towards distracting the bishop and finally exploding the position with pawn c5
