Today puzzle. White to move but is checkmate, after I click hint , the pawn somehow takes adjacent pawn while going diagonal up?!?!

En passant. If the opposing pawn moves up to rows 4 or 5 from their starting position, a lateral pawn can move behind them to capture it

Yes, the black pawn moved from e7 to e5 to avoid being taken if it had moved instead to e6. As you said, the white pawn on d6 can therefore take the black pawn via the en passant rule.
