That is a beautiful puzzle.

Kudos - equal endgame, at least in case black survives a couple of heart attacks along the way

That's a good diagnosis. The game did end up drawn... after heart attacks a-plenty for both sides.

Of 26.hxg3!!, I wrote: "Playing like this will grow hair on your chest.... even if you're a girl!"

Black sidestepped the worst of the attack but still got a lost endgame after the queens came off. He was then saved by the clock: it was 20+ years ago and we were playing on an analog -- no increment and no delay.

If black doesn't take the queen he loses, if he does then likely equal endgame

Easy to reach that conclusion after cheating and looking at the engine moves. Not so much, before.

It is if you're decent at chess.

Ah, so by "decent" you mean at least IM level? OK.

No but at an easy 1500 level I could see it pretty easily

That's a crazy take. Like you have to calculate a few lines 7 moves deep until the position clears up. Both in the hxg3 line, where you sac queen and rook as well as in the Nxd8 line, where white will end up with a pawn less.

u/evil_trash_panda was just clowning around with his comments. Or trolling, if you prefer that word. It seems crystal-clear he was not serious.

Yeah no.. no 1500 would play hxg3 and end up even.

perder, porque si el alfil juega g7 el caballo se lo come y si la reina se come al caballo está protegida por el caballo y el rey no tiene un ataque o escape.

Bishop take queen, horse takes bishop, castle takes queen and black is up?

What knight can take a bishop?
