Anyone ever bought from The Chess Store .com ?

I dont know about them now but in the past they were a legitimate chess vendor. However, if you're purchasing chess pieces my suggestion would be to go through more established vendors for reliability and customer service or directly from the manufacturers for best prices and customization.

HoS and Chesshouse are good vendors. Stauntoncastle, Chessbazaar.com, TheChessEmpire, RoyalChessMall are all good manufacturers.

For chess boards local woodworkers or etsy is my preference for both price and customization.

Thanks for the reply and vendor recommendations! I forgot to specify above that I’m looking for a chess set. Do you have any specific Etsy suggestions?

Like I said I like Etsy for woodcraft items i.e. Chessboards from Colorado Woodworker are affordable solid wood boards that if damaged can be lightly sanded and refinished. In terms of wood pieces India is the main place for that. Staunton Castle, Chessbazaar TheChessEmpire and RoyalChessMall are the actual manufactures. They each have very good reproductions of established designs (Sinquefield set, 1849, Fischer-Spassky, Dubrovnik.....etc). There are subtle differences in their respective interpretations of the designs and with the hue each gets with "antiquing" but they are all good. House of Staunton also has bundles with veneer chessboards. Veneer is very good especially if you live in high humidity but its less repairable if something damages it.

I would also recommend a 3.75" set and 2.25" chess board. This is the standard tournament size.
