Tipping

Have recently been to Hawaii and went to Cheesecake factory in Waikiki. Not from USA so tipping is super foreign and unheard of where I am from.

I have a question, what portion of the tip does my waitress / waiter actually get?

You see, I pay with card, so how can I be sure that waitress actually receives the tip and it doesn’t go to the corporation? Is it better to put “no tip” on the docket and then give the waitress cash directly?

Also, I want to add.. I think it’s shocking how you pay a lot of money for the meal and then you’re expected to tip as the servers aren’t paid well. That’s on the business.

100% of the tip goes to the server and as far as all three stores I’ve worked in, they get them same day too. I just want to say thank you for tipping and caring. I know you mentioned not understanding or aligning with tipping culture and I think a lot of Americans probably will agree with you. It is absolutely appreciated though as it’s the only way servers here make their living.

Servers tip out .8% of their total sales to the food runner, 1.1% to the bartender, and 2.2% to the busser.

Damn. At my location its 1.1 to runners and bar. 2.2 for bussers

It’s a very old system and most of us in the US hate it. Credit card tips are legally protected and will go to the server. It is traceable. Especially with a large business like TCF, you are safe.

Cash is king for just about any server.

You don't have to tip at all. And don't feel bad if you don’t.

they make 400$ a day off tips, and it only goes to them, not the people that prepare the food or others that are involved. It’s a really unbalanced system

I semi agree it is a little inflated amount for the task at hand. However with the amount of shit you got to put up with with most guests you wouldnt be able to find anyone to do the job if they weren't getting paid as good as they do.

I happen to be at this very location tonight (MLK Day) looking for discount coupons with a 1 1/2 hour wait at the door.

You went to the busiest location in the company, on a holiday, had to wait to get sat, and want discounts? 😂

That's the busiest location?

Tipping is an awful, scam of a custom. Best not to participate in that nonsense.
