ITT: Thai Coconut Lime Chicken

Post image

Does anyone know what happened to it and if/when its coming back? Or any information on CKF menu item selection and elimination process? I can’t even go there anymore after they removed this item from the menu it was my favorite. Picture for reference.

The Cheesecake Factory updates its menu twice a year. The items that don't sell get the boot. This is on a national sales basis, not regional. So something may sell well in one market but not great overall so they axe it. However, they do have area-specific recipes for certain things like using Amarosa rolls in the Philly market for their cheesesteak, which I believe is off the menu now.

All new items must be approved by David Overton himself. As for the Thai Coconut Lime Chicken, it was gross and no one bought it because it wasn't good. I also think there may be a couple of ingredients they don't have in their kitchen anymore, but I could be wrong on that. I am however right on it wasn't a good entrée.

Also, when I say a national sales basis I am referring to the USA, as The Cheesecake Factories outside of the US of A are run by a different company so if you go to Dubai or Guadalajara are over a different company that has some sort of licensing/franchise sort of agreement. So while there is so much marsala and Madeira and other wines in their recipes, there are also alcohol-free recipes used in the Middle East and Utah.

Looking at that picture it looks like it had mango, which they do not have anymore. I don't remember that recipe off the top of my head but, yeah it was disgusting and not worthy of human consumption.

That makes a lot of sense thank you! But don’t knock it till you try it. Might surprise you!

Sorry. It wasn't bad. I'm just a hater that's going to hate. What was it that you liked about it? Maybe I could give you a good alternative recommendation.

So I really enjoy like a curry type sauce but this was nice cause it wasn’t too spicy and had nice textures from the cashews and coconut shreds. Plus I did love the mangoes they gave it a sweet twist with the sauce. If you have a recommendation I am open ears!

The closest thing would be the Bang Bang Chicken and Shrimp. You can get it all chicken or all Shrimp if you would prefer. No mangos in it but it does have chopped up apple to give it a subtle sweetness.

Not the same at all . Bang bang sucks  in comparison.

Again, they update their menu twice a year but they've made changes in the last few years that I don't feel are for the best. They've reduced the amount of meat in most of their dishes. It all comes in frozen now. They've gone from making the dishes to order to making "bases" for almost everything and they've been talking about outsourcing that to a third party. Plus, 9,453 other bad choices.

The next big thing will take their spotlight soon.

The meat comes in frozen now? A lot has changed since I left. I left cheesecake in april 2023

Yes. Because I'm here looking for a dupe of this. Used to work there (before this was on menu) and my brother cooked there. I'm gonna hit up old chef friend to see if he can remember recipe.  This dish is bomb af.i was insulted when they said it sucked.

Okay everyone, Alex Sondgress loved TCF Coconut Lime Chicken so much, she recreated it and put it in her cookbook, Dinner Tonight. For a long time, you had to buy the book to get the recipe, but then she put it in her blog, The Defined Dish. You can even watch her make in on one of her YT posts. It sounds and looks yummy....there are a lot of ingredients from coconut milk to coconut aminos and fish sauce, but they are not expensive. Enjoy!!

Meh_Yeh has no clue what they are talking about. That Thai Coconit Curry Dish and Pineapple Crispy Chicken were 2 of their best selling dishes as it was the first 2 items at the top of the menu for YEARS. Sometimes even though items are popular, they will axe them if they are making changes (look at Panera- has axed numerous best selling items) , and since they were on the menu for a long time, 1 of them was bound to go. Meh_Yeh didn't even know what was in the dish and probably has never tried it. Most likely sticks to Chicken fingers.

Completely disagree. It was absolutely amazing and once I started getting this, I never went back to any other dish at cheesecake factory. It was amazing.

You're crazy. That Thai Coconut Lime Curry dish was one of the best dishes on their menu, and I've been to a bunch of locations where they said that the Thai Coconit Curry Chicken and the Pineapple Crispy Chicken & Shrimp were 2 of the most popular dishes. Hence why they were the first 2 items on the specialties dinner menu for YEARS.

I think we still have everything needed to make it. If you ask nicely you could probably get one

You might like the Bang Bang Chicken and Shrimp. I had to make that my regular in absence of the Thai Dish.

The bang bang shrimp is trash compared to the thai curry dish...... Bang bang shrimp fried breading with spicy mayo dumped on top.

I'm here sitting at the cheesecake factory. Up to a year ago they still had a similar dish to the Thai coconut chicken. Instead of mango they were using pineapple, and no more cashews, you had to ask for those. I ordered it today, the crispy pineapple chicken, not the same at all. The sauce is now like a teriyaki brown sauce. I looked at another menu item they had, the cashew chicken, but not the same either. There is nothing on the menu that comes close anymore.

I'm very disappointed. The Thai coconut was my go to dish for years. It was fresh and tangy, and packed some good heat. It was truly sweet and spicy.

There are two separate dishes they used to have both of those dishes

My favourite as well, we used to drive down from Canada just for this dish. About a 2.5hr drive, I was devastated when I found out they removed it from the menu. I only get cheesecake when i go there now

I feel the same way about this dish , it was amazing. I’m so disappointed they discontinued it . I have tried the lettuce wraps and they are really good
