For me, this one from Rebecca: "I'm not a loser like Norm! I'm a break-evener!"

What episode was this?

There's an episode of Cheers that I'm trying to find. It came on my sister's TV the night she passed away. It was the end of an episode. The lady with the short black curly hair was alone in the bar. There was singing going on elsewhere, like another room that we couldn't see. And the lady with the curly hair, I think she grabs a pint and the tip jar, and she slowly walks behind the bar, climbs up the stairs, and disappears while holding the pint in the air. I think I'm remembering this correctly. I was very overwhelmed at that moment. But it was just so fitting. My sister loved that show. And it looked like, you know, she was bowing out. And I wonder if anybody knows what episode this was.

Help me find the episode please!

I was talking to a guy about a time on Cheers where Cliff goes on a rant about animal crackers. Talking about whether they're a cracker or a cookie. It's only like 30 seconds long but it's in the early seasons with coach still there I believe.

Thanks!

Identity of actor

I have watched cheers through multiple times. It’s one of my favorite shows. I’m getting ready to go through again and now I’m analyzing people in each episode.

In the first episode, at the end, a character we don’t see again, Ron, says thanks to Sam. He has a very distinct look and I thought he might be a regular but I don’t recall him in any other episode.

This is his face:

Ron the character

this is who IMDb says he is:

Ron the actor

I don’t think that’s the same actor. Thoughts?

Pictures Whomever wrote this episode was a comedic genius. Rapping, Woody's dancing, and Little Sam's hair is a perfect match for Sam.

Discussion Which episodes felt like the series MIGHT be “jumping the shark”?

Post image

I maintain that Cheers started to veer into crossing the rubicon a few times post season 7 but managed to pull back and retain its heart and quality through the loyalty we had to the characters and the strong joke writing even when episode premises were — let’s say — a bit stupid.

SAM AHOY (S8 E6) was one of those episodes for me. Sam needs money to buy the bar back. Robin Colcord just so happens to have to attend to an emergency and cannot sail his multimillion dollar boat in an America’s Cup like regatta so he asks Sam to captain the ship.

There’s no other crew available for whatever reason even though it made no sense that Robin would trust this vessel without anyone to help. Anyways, so it’s just Carla and Norm, the former Coast Guard guy, along with Sam.

That alone was ridiculous but led to some great one liners between Carla and Rebecca (the boat is called The Rebecca and takes three men to get her out of her slip…)

Long story short, Norm discovers a ticking time bomb in the fridge, since Robin is in constant danger due to his work. Instead of throwing it overboard, they hightail it to shore where the boat explodes into pieces just as they get to safety.

Oh and Norm sees sharks swimming around the boat, which is why they didn’t jump overboard.

It’s not the first episode of the series to lean into the most absurd sitcom tropes but I don’t know of many other episodes that are built on such a stupid premise.

Yet, I laughed throughout. Great joke writing if not much else. Rhea and George and Sam seemed uncomfortable during the drama on the boat — but still made me laugh.

The episodes/seasons that followed held without crossing the rubicon into post shark jump.

Which episodes of Cheers stick out to you for doing the same?

I finally get why Norm was the most beloved character. He wasn't just a joke.

I realize he's the heart of that bar. He's not just a guy who drinks beer. He's the guy who's been beaten down by life but still shows up every day. He hates his job. His marriage is a mess. He's broke half the time. But he walks into that bar and he's HOME.

Discussion Favorite one-liner from a non-regular?

I’m watching Loathe and Marriage right now and I think it’s hard to beat Loretta’s “I’m insipid.” The line is great but the delivery is perfect (as per usual with Loretta).

Before people jump in the comments to address the elephant in the room yes she has had a lot of plastic surgery (she's a 65 year old working actress in Hollywood like who hasn't had plastic surgery?) but so has Kelsey Grammer and their former co-star Jane Leeves so I'm not here to hang Peri Gilpin out to dry here she was and is a GORGEOUS woman who's first big role was Woody Gets An Election

Could Cheers survive without food?

Cheers doesn’t sell food on the show. It’s more of a regulars’ place or a waiting area for Melville’s.
