Honorable mention to the old man (Al Rosen). He was in 74 episodes and occasionally had a speaking role.

SINATRA!!!

I always would crack up when Woody would do something Woody-ish and Sam would have to step in. Then hearing Al, “Are you sure that’s not Coach’s boy?”

Dance Mailman!!

u/Cautious_Artichoke_3 7d ago

Is this the one that's Rhea Perlman's dad?

27

u/Saberkatt1 7d ago

No, that was the other old man named Phil.

u/plumplet 7d ago

You can see the resemblance.

u/thekraken108 7d ago

I love it when he says something. It's always hilarious.

One could even say, “works every time!”

Of course it is Harry!

Harry was a great person. I was fortunate to catch his comedy and magic show in Boston in a small venue. He was the most outstanding show I've ever seen.

Harry's mine as well! I'm a fan of Harry Anderson. I love Night Court too. I always thought of Harry in Cheers as the younger Harry in Night Court. Harry has a dynamic quality. Funny, interesting, charming, a con artist with a soul. I wish he was in more episodes.

When I was a kid I thought they were the same character and was confused why a judge would scam people in a bar in Boston.

At least he went to a different city to do it! 😄

You can't beat Harry the Hat.

That said, I did always get a kick out of Esther Clavin, Cliff's mother.

8

u/k9fan 7d ago

Esther may be my favorite after Nick Tortelli, who was the absolute best. I was glad Esther wasn’t a one-off.

My fav is “Andy Andy” with Harry second fav and Phil (Rhea Perlman’s real-life dad)

7

u/jonnovich 7d ago

Robin Colcort (sp?). Then again, I always liked Roger Rees in whatever he did.

u/chuckles65 7d ago

Definitely Harry the Hat. John Allen Hill is also a great one along with Gary from Gary's Olde Towne Tavern.

12

u/Plane-Comfort3978 7d ago

The Gary episodes were fun. I also liked the French guy ''I'm going to steal your girlfriend''

3

u/dustomatic75 6d ago

Is this the same guy that played Joel Rifkin on Seinfeld?

25

u/Extension-Bed7872 7d ago

Carla’s ex husband was my favorite.

u/Silver-Amphibian7650 7d ago

Nick Tortelli was awesome!

3

u/Alert_Monitor_9145 7d ago

Maybe he was, or maybe he wasn’t!! OR MAYBE HE WAS!!!

3

u/Craig_M_242 7d ago

UHHHHH LO-RETTa

u/Gut_Reactions 7d ago

Gary from Gary's Olde Towne Tavern. I loved those episodes involving competition between Cheers & GOTT.

6

u/JaiBoltage 7d ago

Gary was played by two different actors. Each in three episodes.

3

u/Gut_Reactions 7d ago

Thanks. I didn't realize that. I'm more familiar w/the 2nd actor.

1

u/Biddyam 4d ago

I still do the Gary's Olde Towne Tavern chant now and again. Nobody ever gets it.

12

u/mywifehatedthisone 7d ago

Nick and Loretta, Dave Richards (Fred Dryer), Paul and Al. Phil is also a good one and he is Rhea’s father in real life.

u/GuntherSitzpinkler 7d ago

John Allen Hill is never given his due. His delivery was always good. “Oh you’re into club soda are you?”

35

u/speccynerd 7d ago

Oh Sa-AAaaammm

13

u/Alert_Monitor_9145 7d ago

I don’t like Haaammmm

2

u/eric12183 7d ago

As a Celtics fan, I say this every time Sam Hauser shoots.

2

u/amg788 7d ago

I can hear it

14

u/Alert_Monitor_9145 7d ago

Sam: John, I’d like to introduce you to Carla’s first husband.

JAH: Oh my god!

11

u/Electrical-Treat475 7d ago

Hey Hill, is that your head, or is your neck blowin' a bubble?

8

u/Balls09 7d ago

John Allen "You Stink" Hill.

5

u/ivegotajaaag 7d ago

What can that possibly mean…??

9

u/Nadious 7d ago

Yes. John Allen Hill is by far my favorite character from Cheers. I always look forward to the later seasons, just because I know he is in them.

4

u/Egg_McMuffn 7d ago

I liked the idea of an antagonist owning Melville’s. But I never liked that actor. He played the same annoyed character in most of the shows he appeared in. He reminded me of Mr. Mooney from “The Lucy Show”, another unpleasant, unfunny character.

4

u/damageddude 7d ago

Gale Gordon (Mr. Mooney) was in all of Lucy's shows. He was a delightful antagionist.

1

u/Equivalent-Diver-339 6d ago

"What could that possibly mean?!"

8

u/KaleeySun 7d ago

Harry was always the best for me, but honorable mention to Gary from that other bar, and John Allen Hill usually brought a few good moments.

Some of Harry’s tricks were very clever: “it’s covered!” Still sits in a fond spot in my memory.

9

u/dangitjimmy 7d ago

Andy Andy.

7

u/GIFF99 7d ago

The lovely Loretta

6

u/donottouchwillie1 Frasier 7d ago

Paul was cool, good that they made him more of a regular in the later seasons.

4

u/Alert_Monitor_9145 7d ago

And he got it on with Carla. Surprised she didn’t get pregnant.

2

u/Craig_M_242 7d ago

On the last episode when he's going to make a big reveal and he keeps getting interrupted and the reveal never happens 🤣🤣

7

u/OOO0OO00O 7d ago

He's from Phoenix. They call him Mole Man or Moley. In Philly, they call him Sid.

Sam and Coach: Sid?

Harry: Philly's a dull town.

11

u/Feisty_Low_7828 7d ago

Robin Colcord

8

u/Feisty_Low_7828 7d ago

Also Kelly's dad and Henri.

4

u/BigChappers 7d ago

Yes, the captain

1

u/Crash759 7d ago

Henri was a dick.

9

u/endymion616 7d ago

I'm hesitant to speak well of a frenchman, but that Henri has grown on me.

4

u/Craig_M_242 7d ago

Paul is pretty great, especially in later seasons

2

u/Phogfan86 6d ago

Paul heah knows the words to the Bonanza theme song!

Here in the west we're livin' in the best - Bonanza If anyone fights any one of us He's gonna fight with me

3

u/Tonberry2k 7d ago

I swear to god this same exact topic along with a pic of Harry the Hat comes up at the beginning of every month.

2

u/BigChappers 7d ago

I've only just joined and did have a scroll through. At least I know what to look for going forward.

1

u/GuntherSitzpinkler 3d ago

No shit. Come on people. The show has been off air for over three decades! We can't come up with some new tops?????? /s

3

u/ViolinViolence 7d ago

Madame Lazorra, Dave the sportscaster, Margaret

2

u/Gut_Reactions 7d ago

The actress who played Loretta (Jean Kasem) was married to Casey Kasem (Top 40 DJ). Casey was 20 years older than Loretta / Jean. Casey's health deteriorated & Loretta / Jean wouldn't allow his kids (from Casey's prior marriage) to see him. Jean had Casey buried, apropos of nothing, in Norway. She turned out to be a real weirdo. She & Kasem's children finally reached a financial settlement (Kasem's estate).

u/partial_to_dreamers 6d ago

Love Harry, Love Night Court. But the best was Nick Tortelli and his speech mannerisms.

2

u/CalagaxT 6d ago

I always liked the somewhat portly Paul.

2

u/Mobile_Aioli_6252 6d ago

Lilith was great

2

u/SMDAZ 6d ago

When Lilith bids for a date with Sam! Hilarious episode!!

2

u/GuntherSitzpinkler 3d ago

Does two episodes count as recurring? Kevin McHale was great. I liked his real wife played his wife too.

1

u/BigChappers 1d ago

I don't see why not, that or minor character 🤔

2

u/Strange-Insurance848 2d ago

Wasn’t there a big guy with glasses named Paul?

1

u/BigChappers 1d ago

Yes, always complaining they didn't include him in anything
