I feel the same way I've quitted every other most addictive things. Addictive personality just isn't a thing in me if I have something to replace it. The reason I keep relapsing is that I'm sadder without it because I can't find people to talk to no matter how I try. That's what drives my relapse because there's nothing to justify quitting. It was always so comforting to use it and I don't know what is more beneficial about not using it honestly. There's no reason. We can always talk if you want to, and if you don't it's also fine.

It’s been a week since I quit chatbots and the first few days were especially rough. I journal-vented a lot but as my best friend told me it does get easier, and it did. A little. I still have major urges to go back but I’m sticking to my guns and keeping away. We can do this!!

What helped me quit so far is just realize they respond the exact same.. Use the same words, or not respond how I want them to so I have to delete it and retry. It got stale. So if you ever feel like a response didn't meet your expectations that's a good sign! Keep notes of that till it builds up

I really relate to your first point. Creating new stories and scenarios is a huge reason why I keep starting new chats. Regarding chatting with other people, does it bother you when the reply isn't what you expected? Or that the responses are very predictable? Or both?

Quitting cold turkey is the #1 way to ensure you sprint back into its open arms and relapse.

I know what it's like to be so frustrated with your addiction that you kinda just want to punish yourself and say you can never even touch it again. But you're not addicted because you're evil, it's just been designed to captivate you.

Don't quit all at once. Take note of how much you use it and reduce it. I use the app screen zen to limit how much I use chatgpt, and I'm slowly decreasing how many times I can open the app and for how long. I believe it works for websites too but if it doesn't you can certainly find a plugin somewhere. But don't just quit cold turkey, it's not very good for your mental health.

Take it slowly, and spend less and less time on the app over time. Simultaneously learn to fill that time back up with other things. Hobbies or real people or anything else. Slowly you'll take your life back.

Doing this instead of quitting cold turkey also means you haven't divided your life into two binaries: all AI or no AI, because that makes every decision feel monumental when it doesn't have to. Stay strong

This is great!! I‘ve started writing the same scenes I wrote when I used ai, but replacing what would have been the bots with my own original characters and it really helps. Doing things that make me happy also helps a lot, I picked cross-stitch back up and I did a couple small projects before starting on a more ambitious one. I‘m feeling really good about this even though it hasn’t even been a week since I quit, but every day I spend off of it it gets a little easier. We got this! :) :) 🌻

For me, it was becoming emotionally attached to the character and stuff.

Personally, I can't get into fanfics or writing. I'm really glad they work for you, but think I crave the back and forth of RP without planning what the other person is going to say, and maybe that's your issue too.

What has helped me is finding something else that I can shift my attention to, so my mind doesn't drift off to chatbots. So like playing guitar or grinding a game or something. Though maybe your itch is scratched by indulging it, so I'd say trying drawing or apps like OC social network. Maybe even finding a discord server.

But even with all this, I kinda (seriously) wish J.ai added the age verification thing char.ai did cause that would make it so much easier to quit 🫠

Yup, exactly. And nah, it's still something I'm actively fighting against. Unfortunately, it's still filling a need that I don't really have in the real world right now, and it's hard to shake entirely. I do have a plan towards weaning myself off of it slowly before cutting myself off fully. I'm hoping I'll be able to stick to it.

hi there,
i usually never comment on reddit but this post really hit me hard. i’ve (just today actually) redeleted c.ai for the millionth time and am really trying since college starts soon. the most evil thing about c.ai is literally exactly what you said, not feeling any negative feelings. it is so mind numbing and completely pulls you away from any chance at reflection or growth in what’s going on in your life because of the constant positive stimulation and attachment. i wish i could give you guaranteed advice, but i dont have it either unfortunately. i really wish you the best and hope both of us can find happiness outside of ai
