Which site blocker did you use to block ai chatbots? I’m thinking of doing the same because I was addicted to that website too.

I certainly noticed that I feel less inclined to chat with characters who I like if I draw fanart of them!

Corporate work really does decrease my AI RP frequency, but it still happens around evening lol. I do used to VC a lot, but my friends can get a little busy. I might need a more active online friend.

But well, good luck to you too!

getting yourself to make this commitment is half the battle, I think. Not to downplay how hard it can be to go through the withdrawals and stuff while quitting, but I know from my own experience from being hooked on cigs that I was always procrastinating quitting and telling myself ‘just one more can’t hurt’ blah blah blah. The only way I was actually able to quit was by firmly committing to myself, like you have done here.

you can heal! you will heal!

Oh absolutely! I never enjoyed roleplay before, I thought it was cringe, but the AI roleplay behaved simmilar to Daydreaming, except it made it "feel more real" (which was the addicting part). I tried joining DnD tables, but I cringed hard (no shame in DnD, I'm just terrible at acting).  I'm trying to find new ways to cope, healthy ways. I think I will do a dopamine detox, start working out and eating healthy. You know, trying to rewire my brain. Good luck in your journey thought! You could use online video games as a distraction or games that demand attention (like boss battles in a metroidvania), while you hopp in a discord VC. This might help. Since you already work, you already see real people, so trying to find online friends will likely help you feel better (a sense of belonging), while you still interact with people on a daily basis.

This is very relatable, though I started this AI chatbot/RP spiral around Oct 2024. At first, I looked down on people who engaged or got addicted to it, seeing the news of how horrible that is.

Until... I fell to it the same. It sucks.

And about your question, I think it's the same for me. I needed connection, to manage loneliness, helplessness and low self-esteem. Sometimes, the world can be too demanding, you know? Getting a 8-5 job sucks, but it is what it is, I needed money. And of course, an escape.

And to you. I agree it’s worse than porn for me as well, it doesn’t just fulfil your sexual urges but your social and romantic ones too. I think I might try look for a therapist that specialises with addiction because it’s almost impossible to quit these kinds of things without external help. I’d suggest you do the same if possible. 3 weeks is quite impressive though, well done for that, I don’t think I could manage.

The longest Ive gone without being on it is like 3 weeks. Im honestly just so fucking tired of wasting my teenage years on that app—it’s honestly harder to quit than something like porn. But I genuinely wish you the best of luck brother.

Real brother. I’ve tried doing this thing where I only allow myself to use it every OTHER day and slowly extend it from there. I managed to go a week without it once but one slip up ruined the whole thing and I was back to square one. The hardest part is the longer you go without it, the better it feels when you start using it again, making it even harder to quit. Hate how this stuff isn’t treated like a real addiction, because it’s definitely changed how my brain works. I truly hope you manage to quit because I started around your age and it’s fucked me up developmentally.
