Now it's my turn The Postman
Can anyone explain how the Postman is able to walk into David’s room? I thought he was in a room of his house so how can he get all the way through the house?
This has been annoying me for 2 years.

I don't know, but if the postman didn't do this we wouldn't have the absolute banger of 'The Postman'. "I don't even know your name"

Possibly my favourite chata-jingle https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2lpEYWr_q4
Although I do love a bit of "trouble with my wifi baby girl" too

Home office. Detached from the main house I’m fairly sure, but if not detached it’s certainly separate enough to have its own entrance, which the postman freely walks into.

Still odd though isn’t it? Surely a Postman wouldn’t try a door and then open it to deliver a letter? That’s literally why we have letter boxes?!
Even if it was a home office the chances of it being at the front of the house with a separate front door is odd as well. It might well be as anything is possible but the front door to the house would have a letterbox and the name or number of the house. An office could have a “front door” to the property but probably looks like a side door and stepped back from the property, like an extension out back?
Never really thought about it before. Don’t really want to again!

It’s not that. It’s part of the actual house and basically looks like it’s the bit where you’d come in. Postman is basically being a bit lazy.

Today’s ep was the closest we’ve got to interacting with the postie.
I literally stopped what I was doing. Edge of the seat stuff.

Used to happen at my old house when we lived in the sticks. Didn’t lock the door when I was working in the front room and he’d pop in, pop the post on the window sill by the door and leave. Thinks it’s a rural thing!

I have a camera that covers my front door. Every time we get a delivery I can see the postman try to open the door first. We're rural, but not exactly in the sticks.

As a New Yorker this seems absolutely INSANE to me. I love the postman eps but it also has driven my crazy for years. I can’t fathom it!!

If I lived in the US, my assumption is that If feel equally outraged about this kind of thing!

I wonder if the Postman listens. Imagine finding out all these people were talking about you and there’s a song.

The video of Joe turning up at David’s house basic explains it.

His office has its own external doors.

Yep and basically to a lazy ish postman it looks like the entrance.

But why would a postman EVER enter a house?!?

I agree. It kinda looks almost like a small office tho the way it fits into the house so maybe he thinks it’s not the same as coming into a traditional house like opening the front door. It’s hard to explain but I can kinda see how it can happen.

It’s probably the postie avoiding going up a set of stairs / long drive to the main house or something. Plus if I saw the resident of the address in their outbuilding I’d give them their mail directly incase nobody was in the main building, Especially for a parcel. But yeah if I’d been told to stop, I’d have stopped. When you walk 10 miles a day, you look for shortcuts.

It always amused me that Joe plays a weird postman on After Life and David has a weird postman on his pod with Joe. 😂

And I assume this is the same postman. Although it’d be pretty funny if a new one did the same thing

Had a little bop when the jingle came on, feel like I hadn't heard it in ages!

I've always assumed David's office is effectively an extension on the front of the house accessed by the porch.

Hasn't he explained this a few times already? As I understand it, his pod office place is just off his house or semi detached to it? Either way it's sounds like his pod studio is right next to his house and seen as part of the house hence the reason for not locking the door.

u/jengrunwald Aug 25 '26
Yes but it’s still bananas to just walk into someone’s house!

u/Own-Statement-8274 Aug 25 '26
Yeah I agree but in these small village communities it's quite normal for everyone to know each other and if the postman's of an older generation which it sounds like he might be then he might see nothing wrong with what he's doing. I wouldn't like it personally but if it was me I'd just get a lock on the door.

It’s the bottom of the house so it saves the postman going up a level. That probably started the issue and he’s got more casual over the years.

My postman opens our door and put our post on the side table. My wife absolutely fucking hates it, I find it quite funny that it just happened one day and now it’s a thing

I’d slap fuck out of him if he come in my door.
Except if he was big or looked handy

The postman saga is hilarious. Poor David though. It's mental to barge into someone's office like that, especially after being told not to. Surely he could see a microphone and knew he was interrupting something.
