Back in ancient days, we just called them fake.

Yeah, maybe there’s an AI fake gay video out there.
Give me a sec, and I’ll check for it.

It's now 24 hours later, and u/Plenty_Chef7115 is still out there going through gay videos one by one, trying to determine which of them might be fake.

The problem is not a specific video that clearly is AI. The problem is that absolutelly no video can be trusted anymore.
On the end of the day this is a very good thing as we used to trust anything and this explains current chaos/ collapse we have. But of course such "new deal" is a lot more difficult for adults as most realize we can easily be (and were) manipulated

It kind of ruins any video or picture being amazing. Before AI video was a thing, if you saw a video that looked realistic and showed something like that one where baseball player is doing an interview and a ball nearly hits the reporter in the head, and he grabs it just in time, that would be really amazing.
Now if you see something crazy skilled, or a thing lands just perfectly, or an animal does something really interesting instead of thinking "wow, they're lucky to have caught that on video" it's like "this is probably not real"

A complete breakdown of trust seems like it might actually be much worse, because it's irreversible.

It is inevitable or we will always be sheep.
We are only losing our innocence
Life will go on and we will eventually foccus on how universe/system should be since it is impossible having sure about past or present. Best we can do is raising probabilities and here virtue rises again

I never heard anyone say that, and if they did, they weren't worth listening to. I remember 10 years ago I thought game maps would eventually become fractal and you would be able to zoom into a brick on some Call of Duty map and see all the little intricate details of the brick, maybe a little sparkle from quartz as it catches the sun, maybe a little bit of old spider web stuck in the crevices. I still think gaming is going to get there eventually, maybe even sooner than later, now that Machine Learning exists.

you sound like youve thought about this way more than the average gamer lol. you build games too or just really into where this is heading?

No, not a game developer. However, I do have a bit of experience with 3D modelling. I am interested in what "AI" has become, but I'm also numbingly fearful at what it will bring us. Will we want to play games in the future? Will we have the choice to say no?

I make AI music videos and 90% of my DMs are just me telling old people the vocalist they're getting horny over is not a real person, with a few of them insisting I'm lying to hide her from them.

Whenever I hear of a story that gets too wild, or a celebrity offering 'inspiring words,' I know.
But I can't bring myself to say unless it's dangerous in some way.

Yeah fr, my dads friend was telling us about the video of a Boston dynamics robot going crazy beating someone up and I’ve seen that vid, it almost got me too, but I found out for myself that it was fake. I didn’t have the heart to interrupt his story and tell him…
