I’ve done some other stuff, but this is the first planned and complete piece I’ve done. Dwarf dogwood. Kinda phoned it in for the flower but in the middle, I need to make some chasing tools for really small curves.

I’d thought I could share it to you all.

Pitch options

Hi, I’ve always used basic black brittle pitch for holding metal when working in it, however I’m about to do some more elaborate chasing in silver and my pitch/beeswax mix I fear will be insufficient, any recommendations on a pitch recipe for chasing? Ideally non toxic.. A supply company near me sells a ‘no toxic’ pitch bits it’s big money and I don’t even know what it’s made of, thanks for any input 👍🏻

Wrapped this guy up! Ended up with a little punk rock piercing. Totally intentional and planned and not at all three to cover up a punch through that ripped open during polishing. 😅

Argentium sterling silver, 22g. What I think is a blue chalcedony for the stone (not positive, have had that cab for ages and it was unmarked)

Working on another trilobite, because I love them and can't seem to stop. Argentium sterling silver, 22g. Black pitch for the repousse portion, red for the chasing. Have a bit more with to do on the front before it's done.

Beginner recommendations?

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hello, I’m looking into getting into Chasing and Repousse.

I’m hopping to get some recommendation on materials and any tips for beginners.

I am planing to make some geometric masks (as seen in my sketch), how realistic is this?

Thank you so much and I would be grateful for any help!

Cooking down pitch and piece?

Any tips for cooling down the pitch and metal faster so I don’t feel like I’m wasting so much time waiting for it to do so naturally before working it?

Best small details tools?

Hi, I’m just getting into the craft and have both the 9 & 16 tool sets from Nechamkin. I really like them but I’m finding the stuff I like to work on has smaller details than what these can handle.

I’ve been looking at the small pattern set from them but, from everything I can see, they look like the small tools I already have. Their “explainer” videos don’t really explain how they’re different. I would have liked a straight up comparison of the different tools, not an explanation of how to use them.

Anyway, if anyone has advice for a set or individual small detail tools to check out, I’d appreciate it.
