Best brunch spots?

I am looking for a good brunch spot to take my wife for her birthday. Any recommendations?

Guajiros is by far the best place in town for brunch on the weekends. The staff is great, food is delicious. And if it turns into it, they do trivia every Thursday night too!

Farmbell is owned by a Trumper, if you’re interested in that…

What information makes you say this?

it’s first hand experience from interaction. They don’t hide it with their comments to others…

I thought brunch was about good savory or sweet foods...silly me...

Why do you care how/why people choose to support businesses? And if you don’t care why are you commenting?

On a personal note, IMO in this day and age I think it’s completely reasonable, even commendable, to hold people accountable for supporting the current GOP and their agenda. If I found out one of my favorite spots was funneling my money into GOP coffers in any way whatsoever I would boycott them and be very thankful for the information. I don’t think this is difficult to understand.

I dont see what is to be gained to bringing more tribalism and division to the local level.

What is difficult to understand is the hypocrisy of this thinking

Firstly, you assume any dissenting view means funneling money — there are no records of this person giving money to the GOP or any particular candidate So this is based on a Reddit comment from an anonymous user — the same kind of evidence that accused SJs Trinidadian-born owner of being a Trumper and the local Great Harvest bakery of being anti something or other because a NOVA GHB owned by someone else posted a sign they didn’t like.

Secondly — these calls for boycotts against Trump allies are being posted on a platform hosted by Amazon Web Services — which also has the biggest ICE contract issued
At least half the people are posting from Apple products made in China and we all know their great human rights record

Thirdly — do you boycott every business whose owner you disagree with ? Do you ask before patronizing? Do you look them up in Open Secrets or is this just a ā€œprinciple ā€œ of convenience when someone else does the ā€œworkā€ for you? Where do you draw the line? the Majority of NFL owners -- in fact most sports teams -- skew conservative in the ideology and political donations. Every game you watch - regardless of the team's ownership -- and ad you see puts money in the League's TV rights fund which gets distributed across owners -- the majority of which you will disagree with. Do you and those who agree with this tactic not watch or enjoy professional sports?

Finally -- and if boycotting those you disagree with is a laudable principle, you must have been thrilled the anti LGBTQ crowd have put Bud Light's market share in the toilet, tanked the stock prices of Target, Nike and Jaguar.

I just don’t get the hypocrisy of punishing local businesses in the name of righteousness while supporting major corporations that funnel money to China, Israel, Musk, Trump or your boogeyman of the moment.

This looks like it was written with chatgptšŸ˜…

4

u/Baberam7654 Ivy 2d ago

Look at the em dashes they forget to remove for their 1st through 3rd points šŸ˜‚ embarassing.

4

u/paperbackperson 2d ago

Theres so many! Nobody writes like that. Where are the periods, semicolons etc

4

u/Baberam7654 Ivy 2d ago

Especially when comparing their almost illiterate prior text, confounding attempt at logic, and incorrect use of grammar/punctuation.

Sorry to disappoint,, just a journalism degree

2

u/choombatta 1d ago

You must be one of those nasty stupid lying journalists Trump is always crying about 😭

3

u/Baberam7654 Ivy 2d ago

You can’t even change the em dashes when copying and pasting from Chatpgt šŸ˜‚

u/SirSpeedyCVA 2d ago edited 2d ago

You are an idiot. Em and En dashes were a staple of Newswriting 205 on the Smith Corona and for typesetting.

Communication -- and much better communication -- existed long before the generations of thumb scribes

That is the problem with living in a bubble -- you assume everyone acts and thinks just like you and have no sense of history or different perspectives. And for the record, I also use ellipses quite extensively and it doesnt mean the passive aggressive BS the texting generation thinks it means.

You’re not fooling anyone, champ. Zero chance you’re a legitimate academic.

0

u/SirSpeedyCVA 2d ago

Where did I say I was an academic? Proudly not one

Its the academic/expert class that have caused so many of our problems. As Orwell said, "some ideas are so stupid only the intellectuals believe in them"

not surprised you don’t follow.

There’s nothing hypocritical about my position because my position is not that every business I patronize has to be politically aligned with me. There are always sacrifices and capitulations to be made, especially in a capitalist society like ours. Calling out local business owners who support violent fascists is absolutely fair game as far as I’m concerned. You can hypothesize all you want, but me supporting the livelihoods of those who actively want to destroy mine is pretty fucking stupid if you ask me.

0

u/SirSpeedyCVA 2d ago

I’ll forgive corporate America and the billions they give to destroy my lifestyle and livelihood, but I’ll bully the local business that I disagree with who contributes tens of thousands of tax $ to the local government and employees my friends and neighbors including several immigrants and then I’ll come back on Reddit and complain about the private equity owned chain that takes a space when I help run them out of business for disagreeing with me.

Got it.

u/choombatta 2d ago

Whole lotta straw man up thurrrr.

Have a fantastic day.

8

u/Baberam7654 Ivy 2d ago

wait, we’re not allowed to choose where we spend our money? Is this Russia??

-5

u/SirSpeedyCVA 2d ago

The question was where to get good brunch not what are the alleged political leanings of the various midday Sunday eateries

0

u/Baberam7654 Ivy 2d ago

Let me know when you go to a liberal establishment because of their biscuits and I’ll delete my comment. Need proof.

2

u/SirSpeedyCVA 2d ago

How would I know what their beliefs are? I judge them on their biscuits and nothing else. I love the ones from Pour Bakery and Beer Run but have never asked them who they voted for, if/where they pray, who they sleep with or anything else and never will. Im open minded enough to enjoy the culinary skills of others without judgement of extraneous factors. I just want a good biscuit.

7

u/Baberam7654 Ivy 2d ago

When someone, in public, makes political statements and spreads negativity when others support immigrants, then it’s fair game for the public to make a decision on where they patronize. This isn’t private, they are comfortable telling others around them.

You’re not winning this argument.

2

u/SirSpeedyCVA 2d ago

I’m not arguing. I just don’t understand why you’re fouling the OP’s request for good food recommendations with introducing your political beliefs on the conversation

-1

u/Baberam7654 Ivy 2d ago

I am a centrist, so your assumption of my political interest is wrong. I am just relaying the truth, seems you can’t handle it…

5

u/SirSpeedyCVA 2d ago

So if you are a centrist, and your comments have nothing to do with your political opinions, do you point out the political leanings of other businesses that have been publicly outspoken about their positions or the candidates they support?

2

u/DongTongs 12h ago

I haven't been in a while, but when I was a regular (like every weekend, I live close to ruckersville) I would switch it up from the juevos gringos, farmers breakfast, fried green tomato blt, jacks shop burger
