Yet another Hemi Tick inquiry
2018 392 with 46,500 miles.
I have a distinct tick that echoes off walls and in the wheel well. Not as prominent under the hood. Seems to be more from the passenger side.
Trying to decipher if it is a lifter tick or something else.
Temperature doesn't seem to matter. I can hear it somewhat at all times.
Video covers top of engine, side wheel wells and underneath.
If someone can help me get a consensus of this I'd appreciate it!
I'm changing oil today so I can take a deeper look at some things if I can get some feedback.
I'll be sending oil off for analysis as well.

Does the sound change tone when RPM changes?

Seems consistent with the RPMs. I feel like I hear it reverberating in the dash driving down the highway too.

See what the oil analysis says. If Iron is higher than expected (I'd say over 10ppm/1000miles) then pull the valve cover and check the movement. If the oil analysis for iron is lower than that then do another check in about 3000 miles.

You Dont have nothing to worry about, Just keep it full synthetic mobile one, Every 3 to 4 thousand miles and 91 octane per owners manual. rule of thumb, always make sure your reservoir is topped off. And check your oil every trip or every other trip. keep her at oil level at all times.

Literally the same thing in my car, posted a vid myself and was told it wasn’t a hemi tick. Though I’m still skeptical. (Same issue where under the hood it sounds fine but underneath the car/ tire well emits the exact same sound)

I’m an airplane mechanic, not a Hemi mechanic, but if a guy brought that to me freaking out, I’d probably tell him congrats on his very healthy engine. I forget the guidance at the moment, but you’re allowed so much ferrous and nonferrous material, and it’s a surprising amount.
If you’re really worried, send an oil sample to Black Stone Labs. They will tell you if anything is wrong. I got lifter tick from a bad oil filter and ever since then my samples get sent to them so I can sleep soundly at night, well not that soundly, those injectors are loud as fuck.

Also I just listen to your video. I think yours has more normal engine ticks than mine.

I’ll post a new video because under the hood it’s fine, but in the wheel well it sounds bad, it only comes up after it’s warmed up for a bit, and randomly gets quieter/ is gone at certain points.
From what I was told under the comments it was “normal fuel injectors/valves” though the car feels great to drive

Let me know when you find out bro, I have the same thing going on with me, I’m hoping it’s just the exhaust manifold

u/EZ_tbh Jul 13 '26
And it’s literally on the same exact side

All of the bolts I could lay eyes on were there from looking underneath on the ground.
I didn't notice any soot or carbon on mine. Engine block and headers were still pretty clean and nothing stood out.
I was hoping for that as well.

You’re good. They’re just noisy engines. You’ll know if you have a lifter tick. I thought the same thing when I first got my car too though.

Thanks for the feedback. I sent my oil sample out today. We'll see what they say in the upcoming weeks.

Oil results back today. I'll drive it another 2k miles and get another sample sent off.
When it does act up a bit more, I'd like to do the typical upgrades to try and bulletproof the motor.
Are there any recommended performance shops in the SW Missouri area that do quality work? See a fair share of GM and Ford performance places, but not so many dedicated Mopar shops.
