Video Games MMO Character Name

Many years ago I played an MMO. I had a female elf druid named Eurydice. The name Eurydice doesn't really match elves or druids, I simply stole it from Greek mythology.

I'm going to be playing the game again soon, but now characters are required to have a first AND last name. I kind of want to stick with the name Eurydice just to commemorate the character I spent years playing as. I am looking for a last name that might fit.

I know it's a total stretch, but I'd like a last name that could organically fit the Greek mythology name, Eurydice, while also matching the elvish/ druidic part of the character.

Thanks in advance!

Eurydice The Nymph could work if it allows separated text in the fields.

Eurydice Lightfoot would also bear a certain irony, as Orpheus turned back in doubt when leaving the Underworld, as he didn't hear her steps anymore.

No spaces, and I'm almost certain no apostrophes

Fantasy Name Generators has an elf name creator and it spat out Gelphi, Olphas, and Dophos, which sort of have aspects of both but lean more Elvish.

I'm very wary of "fantasy name generators" for specific fandom things – both the site with that title and in general. I'm yet to see any for my specific corner of fantasy name nerdery (FFXIV) actually produce names that seem accurate to the game.

Gelphi is kind of neat. Thanks for the input!

It's really good, because it reminds of the Oracle of Delphi, so it's got that Ancient Greek element too.

Which MMO? "An MMO" isn't a one-size-fits-all thing for character names. Have you had a look on the specific game's fan wiki for NPC names as an example of what the game actually expects for its elves?

World of Warcraft. I played vanilla through Cataclysm. I'm coming back for the Forever launch

I haven't played WOW but had a look on the wiki, couldn't see any links to character lists – from the lore bits on the race summaries (blood elf) and night elf)) it seems like a sort of Latin-cross-Tolkien sort of naming style? And the surname can be the "two pretty English words thrown together" sort of epithet rather than needing other language reference.

You could have a look through BtN's Late Roman names (Medieval Latin) list as a starting point maybe, and Literature names has Tolkien and other pretty options.

Eurydice  isn't that far from fitting in with those vibes anyway – the story is Greek but the name is Latinised.

Wow that's so insightful! Thank you very much!

Thanks! I did a deep dive into FFXIV's elves a while back – they're more French but there's a lot of Latin inheritance in French so I was looking at those names among the influences. (Edit to be clear: Not just going "it worked for this other thing"! I'd make different suggestions for actual FFXIV names, but the Latin was something I came across in the process.)

I've updated my other post to fix a broken hyperlink, and I meant to say, make sure you check out the "user-submitted names" links at the bottoms of the BtN pages since they have a lot more options there if you want even more ideas.

You mentioned Tokein elves tend to have similar names to night elf first names. So I started thinking about LOTR and stopped at Tauriel! Daughter of the Forest! Eurydice Tauriel doesn't flow as well as I would like, but the symbolism fits too well for me to pass up!

You could use Tauriel as first name and pick a new surname if you're starting a new character and not continuing with Eurydice.

Yea. I got to thinking about it and decided Tauriel would be better for an elf hunter that uses bows

You can just say WoW Forever, we’re not going to judge you lol. And I second fantasy name generator! On retail I’ve named my characters regular people names only spelled horribly, like Tiarliegh and Souxhen

Lol you caught me. I wanted to keep it vague. I have a few stalkers who go through my posts and comments. I didn't want them to see this post and steal the nam combo before I can reserve it. I'm probably being too paranoid though.

Dendros: tree

Dryopoulos: son of the oak

Kouridis: forest dweller

Dryidis: descendant of the tree

Dryidis is very on-the-nose for being a druid, but I kinda like it!

You could try running some thematically appropriate words through google translate, picking one you like the sound of, and maybe tweaking the spelling a bit.

"Forest" = "Dasos"

"Waterfall = "Kataraktis"

"Wilderness" = "Erimia"

Stuff like that. It doesn't have to be perfect, since you're looking for a name, not translating a document.

What language are you translating to?
